Sugar makes me tired, grumpy, unpleasant, grouchy, sluggish, greedy, etc. etc. etc. oh yes and fat. I gave up for lent and after a few days of dreadful withdrawal I was teporarily a nice person till I fell off the wagon. I need to do it again but it's hard. Anyone want to join? Today is Day1. I have nothing with sugar in the house and haven't been shopping, so far so good .

The label on the juice should tell you. It's a way to get a lot of calories, drinking juice and you don't get the fibre etc. You'd be better off eating 2 apples than a small glass of apple juice in most cases.

By the way what is "concentrate"

OrmIrian · 05/07/2007 20:24

Fruit juice that gets dehydrated in the country of origin, packed into drums, exported elsewhere and then rehydrated with the correct amt of water, packed in cartons and ultra-heat treated.

Which is most supermarket juices in the UK be they chilled or not. Not Tropicana and juices marked as not from concentrate. Which is why those are more expensive.

Here endeth the lesson...

Well I don't have a sweet tooth so I suppose that helps.
Basically I eat very little fruit (due to the sugar) but lots of salad and vegtables, lean meat, eggs, tins of tuna (cheap), wholemeal/wholegrain bread, porridge etc.
I have really just started this as well but done it a few years ago properly and it was good then.
I don't cut out fruit completely as I love strawberries, grapes etc but try not to eat them by the bucketload.
Basically when you buy anything, just check the carb level and how much of it sugars, the higher the worse.
Not thats going to stop me have a ton of spaghetti tomorow night as I love it, just try to cut down the rest of the time.

Hoola, like my mother. She said she never liked sweet things because of the war - in WWII we had sugar rationing and the healthiest children ever I think..... She didn't like fruit either.

I'll go on the other thread linked below but I do think you can change what you feel you have to have, alter habits etc although it's hard.
