apart from peas, want something for kids and friends for quick tea (with peas as well). This is possibly the lamest food topic ever started , forgive my dead-brain. Am totally lacking in creativity today.

sweetcorn, tomatoes, green beans, carrots?

RubySlippers · 03/07/2007 16:11

sweetcorn

DragonFaerie · 03/07/2007 16:13

sweetcorn and peas is ok then in your opinion? sounds dreadful to admit but I'm more conscientious about feeding other people's kids than my own, what a truly terrible mother I am.
Carrots too. Hurrah, that's 3.
Thanks guys.

sweetcorn and peas are a great combination - something to do with type 2 proteins...? tasty, colourful and quick too

Mercy · 03/07/2007 16:15

My dd likes sweetcorn and coleslaw with fishfingers.

Or sometimes cherry tomatoes, mangetout and lettuce (cos or little gem)

Baked beans might work too.

ThomCat · 03/07/2007 16:16

Orrrrr you could serve a vegetable mash thing with the FF.

Boil potatoes, in a sweet potato as well
and add carrots, swede, pasnip and mash with butter and milk.

Then serve that with peas and sweetcorn and the fishfingers.

Yum and you've added a load more veg without them really knowing it!

WendyWeber · 03/07/2007 16:26

Oh, apart from peas - I was going to say peas, but peas and peas doesn't provide much variety!

How about tomatoes (raw or fried)?

bundle · 03/07/2007 16:29

cherry tomatoes
cucumber
peas/sweetcorn mixture

would they eat coleslaw?

bozza · 03/07/2007 16:30

I think you could get away with any. I find most kids these days seem to like brocolli. Mine are having to eat broad beans and pointed cabbage this week, mind you.

DragonFaerie · 03/07/2007 16:31

Thanks guys, I can't believe I've embarrassed myself so much by starting this thread ,

I am normally able to bake and everything!Lol

Gingermonkey · 03/07/2007 16:33

veg rosti (grated carrot, courgette, potato skwished together and shaped into a little patty and fried) or corn on the cob???

newlifenewname · 03/07/2007 16:34

All fruit and veg count as 5 a day don't they?! We're having a choice of peas of beans along with jacket potato.

LowFatMilkshake · 03/07/2007 16:37

Asparagus - although very expensive for a childrens fish finger accompnayment.

Other than that I go with sweet corn, carrot battons and mange tout

FlamingTomatoes · 03/07/2007 16:38

brocolli

goes with everything

Mercy · 03/07/2007 16:39

I LOVE asparagus.

How do you get your children to eat broccoli? (I have been trying for 6 years)

chopster · 03/07/2007 16:41

IMO, it isn't worth worrying about. I'm rather anal about feeding my kids, but I've given up with playdates. They never eat their veg, even if their parents insist they eat everything at home, so I've given up and give them crap. My kids then wonder what on earth is going on when I dole out chicken nuggets froma box.

chopster · 03/07/2007 16:41

mercy, stick it in mash or quiche.

chopster · 03/07/2007 16:42

and tell them they are baby trees.

FlamingTomatoes · 03/07/2007 16:43

I bribe them with ice poles

Ds2 loves it anyway, it was his first food and he has never forgotten it!

OhNo40 · 03/07/2007 16:43

Or smother it in cheese sauce.

ThomCat · 03/07/2007 16:46

Mine eat broccoli because I tell them not to eat the special green trees I want them and they think it's funny to wolf it down so I don't get it! We have a huge range of games we play to get veggies eaten!

JodieG1 · 03/07/2007 16:47

cauliflower, sweetcorn, brocolli, parsnip anything really.

DragonFaerie · 03/07/2007 16:48

[grin ]The baby tree thing really works with my youngest (DD3 aged 4), Charlie & Lola type expressions work for most veg in fact, and no NLNN, unfortunately potatoes don't count as one of the five a day

JodieG1 · 03/07/2007 16:48

Mine have always eaten brocolli and see us eating it too and they really love it. They are good with most vegetables actually and fruit but I don't bribe them, vegetables are just part of the meal that we eat not looked on as something horrible.
