Popcorn aficionados please!

Haven't popped corn since I was a kid. Decided to do some today, but didn't know what you're supposed to put in the pan with the corn. Used pure (dairy free marg) and a bit of brown sugar, in the hope that I'd end up with a bit of a toffee-ish coating. Popped and was ok, but wasn't toffee-ish at all, and ended up needing (some might say wanting ) to sprinkle sugar over it.

So my question is, how do I get it like butterkist style popcorn?
How do I get it like the sweet stuff you get in the cinema?
How do I get it like the salt stuff you get in the cinema?
What else tastes good on it?

Put it in the pan with some vegetable oil (sunflower is best a doen't taste of anything). Let it pop.

For sugary - melt some butter and some golden syrup in a seperate pan - keep boilin it until when you drop a small bit into some cold water it forms a soft ball, then mix that into your popcorn.

For salt, melt some butter in a pan and mix it into the popcorn and thnk sprinkle salt on. Deeeelliishhhhh!!

Ahhhh, so my mistake was to try and use the topping to actually pop it. Thank you.

you're lucky ou've still got a useable pan left after taking that route!

bbq went v. well thanks - see what you mean re hansons, they were ok but I'm not sure I'd use them again. we were so lucky with the weather!

Ooh don't say that - was one of my v expensive SKK pans!!!! Must go wash it I guess - it's still sitting in sink .

Have managed to find a caterer based in Tring for the Christening. Hopefully she'll be good - we've worked out a good menu and she sounded lovely when I spoke to her on the phone.

Duck popcorn maker ! I have a similar one that's not a duck - but works the same ! Don't need oil so it's fat free snack - Hoorah !

I can only tolerate salt on popcorn. The sweet stuff is barftastic.

Dh loves that chocolate covered toffee popcorn from M&S - if you like sweet popcorn, he swears it's like popcorn heaven!

Aha - all becomes clear!! Are they really good then? Should I bid? Please say no - my kitchen cupboards don't have room for any more crap.

Befsnork - I can't stand marmite, so the thought of something that tastes twigletty makes me want to vom!

Oh the M&S one sounds nice, but can't have choc at the mo as breastfeeding dd who is milk intolerant.

I used to love those chocolate coated pretzels - gutted when they discontinued them.

I really didn't know you could get popcorn makers - I've always done it in the pan on the stove.

i'm a popcorn addict and don't think those makers make the popcorn as tasty. its sort of cardboardy unless you shove on loads of melted butter which sort of negates the point of them being air popped

I use it in cooking (harks back to my slimming world days), but don't eat or drink it plain. It's just marmite by another name really isn't it .
