Mumsnet Village Show - An Afternoon Tea Tray for One

So here we are again.

So far the rules are:

Tea tray for one

Can include anything you want suitable for a summer high tea (sandwiches, scones, cake, biscuits etc) with suitable cutlery and crockery and the like. (Silver service if you are terribly posh)

Five quid budget (on top of what you already have in your larder).

SlightlyMadScientist is the judge (heaven help us...is she properly qualified???)

Oh and all entries will be anonymous this time (A, B, C etc).

Time limit is 9pm next sunday so we can be judged before bed time.

The rules will obviously be bent or completely ignored but so long as its tea ish then anything goes.

Do we need rosettes? Is the honour and one of LLs tacky

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2007 18:27

I'm sure a virtual rosette is fine

Slubberdegullion · 27/06/2007 18:43

Yes a virtual rosette/certificate is fine. 'Tis the taking part that counts.

(what a bunch of old bollocks, it's the winning and the crushing the opposition and the displaying of the winning decorations, and the showing off to RL friends , and the feeling superior that is what I want)

Is anyone else on tenterhooks waiting for the rules?

Ah. Just me, then

Peachy · 27/06/2007 19:08

Shopuld you be desperate for a RL memento I am sure I could get the kids to rustle up medals for the winners? DS1 does so like to do these little tasks

SlightlyMadShorthair · 27/06/2007 19:40

Rules will be published as soon as I have my little darlings in bed...they just need a little tweaking and polishing...

SlightlyMadShorthair · 27/06/2007 20:10

YOu not entering cod????

MrsFish · 27/06/2007 20:24

SlightlyMadShorthair - spot on

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2007 20:26

Grand

and you've further infuriated cod - superb

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2007 20:28

phew at tray thing

and please could you explain the Composition aspect a little more?

SlightlyMadShorthair · 27/06/2007 20:38

COmposition......the items/sandwiches/pastries/cakes/tea that make up the platter.

e.g. evidence of cucumber good....evidence of peanut butter bad (unless in class 3 )

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2007 20:39

so it is all about fitting in and not rocking the boat? Individuality will be penalised?

[horror]

SconesandMajesticSandwiches · 27/06/2007 20:42

No no no....cucumber is not obligatory
BTW

Shall we say 'grown up sandwiches'... is that any better?

SconesandMajesticSandwiches · 27/06/2007 20:45

If it is true indivduality & novelty it might fit better in class 2 - where composition will not be based on cucumber sandwiches, scones and earl grey......anything goes there but the components will still be asessed based on what is there IYSWIM. I can't really be more specific about composition in Class 2 until I see the entries.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 27/06/2007 20:46

so...peanut butter and banana is not a grown up sandwich??

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2007 20:47

but I like peanut butter

[stubborn]

SconesandMajesticSandwiches · 27/06/2007 20:58

DO what you want...the idea of the 2 categories is that the second gives you scope for originality & straying from the norm....

Think of it as 'what is actually there' and 'how it is presented'....

Tigi - why didn't I listen to you when you said being a judge was hard work?

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2007 21:00

LOLOL

sorry

will behave self now

SconesandMajesticSandwiches · 27/06/2007 21:02

I was only trying to give some suggestion as to what I might be looking at....I thought it would making it easier for me in the long run

FrannyandZooey · 27/06/2007 21:03

at least it shows I am paying attention

SconesandMajesticSandwiches · 27/06/2007 21:04

Yes now - will you please sit down, stopping picking your nose and let someone else have the opportunity to ask a question ...

pointydog · 27/06/2007 21:14

onlyone competition?

no posies, egg cups or thimbles?

pointydog · 27/06/2007 21:14

I'm var hazy on afternoon tea
