only way i can do it is with peeler thing..but boy its tough!
did he eat it???

suzycreamcheese · 26/06/2007 11:25

and cut it in half first helps too

squiffy · 26/06/2007 11:25

Why don't you just cut in half, roast it and then scoop the middle out?

controlfreaky2 · 26/06/2007 11:25
  1. is it that hard with a good vegetable peeler?
2. you can chop and cook with skin on and scoop flesh off afterwards. ok?
Nbg · 26/06/2007 11:25

why didnt you just wrap it in foil and cook in the oven!

Nbg · 26/06/2007 11:25

x posts squiffy

controlfreaky2 · 26/06/2007 11:26

......
3. did you ASK us or WARN us that you were contemplating sqaush cookery? no.

Kewcumber · 26/06/2007 11:26

I'm in the cook it first then scoop the flesh out too. Life's too short to peel a butternut squash.

TrinityRhino · 26/06/2007 11:27

you didn't tell us you were buying one

Kif · 26/06/2007 11:27

don't steam - roast. Then cut off the bottom bit as a in-built bowl and mash with fork. Most efficient savoury weaning food ever (after the all-mighty banana of course)

LadyTophamHatt · 26/06/2007 11:27

because...I didn't think of that!!!

Right remind me to put it in the oven next time

It is extremely easy if you use a potato peeler

LadyTophamHatt · 26/06/2007 11:29

not with my potato peeler it isn't.

I had lumps of skin all over the kitchen....fortunatley not my skin though!

MintyDixCharrington · 26/06/2007 11:30

you need a good grips Y peeler from Oxo

It is the dogs bolleaux

available from all branches of john lewis

Whoooosh · 26/06/2007 11:30

I find it makes my hands all hard and horrid if I peel it-maybe that's just me though...

tullytwo · 26/06/2007 11:32

Not suitable for babies probably but I roast it in wedges with skin on and eat the skin and all - cover in olive oil and spices - yummy!

tullytwo · 26/06/2007 11:33

second to the Y peeler too - what I always use to peel it - tis fab.

suzycreamcheese · 26/06/2007 11:36

lol controlfreak..

mught try that one with skin on and spices, ta

peeler i use in old thing but so trusty, like a U shaped thing is fine..

Wisteria · 26/06/2007 11:37

Chop the squash up and steam it for a few minutes - then the skin just peels off, no problem!

Ladymuck · 26/06/2007 11:42

Errr isn't this your 4th child? Why does he get butternut squash if the others haven't had it?

MrsCarrot · 26/06/2007 11:47

Like others have said, roast it, tis the only way to avoid injury or anger I reckon, or buy the posh peeler.

LadyTophamHatt · 26/06/2007 11:56

LadyM....I said why didn'y you lot remind me.....

I already knew it was shit to peel but had forgtten.

Furball · 26/06/2007 12:05

I gave up with the faff of butternut squash and we now just have sweet potatoes. At least the skin of those is edible.

Wisteria · 26/06/2007 12:19

Honestly guys, it's not hard if you steam for a bit, then leave to get cold, skin just peels away with a knife... try it!

MintyDixCharrington · 26/06/2007 12:46

this is the baby

finest peeler in the world
