we've got friend's coming over for dinner and i've just realised I should probably make some sort of food related effort. I've done a main course (goulash) but what about pud...can't be too fiddly have to feed dc and clear up as well before dh is home if poss! Oh and I want to make this quite clear. FRUIT SALAD IS NOT PUDDING

But strawberries and cream is highly seasonal!

Crotchety · 15/06/2007 16:57

With some shortbread?

Iklboo · 15/06/2007 16:58

And some melted choc with a splash of alcohol for dipping them in too

Fruit KEBABS are a pudding

McDreamy · 15/06/2007 16:58

Got any bananas? Slit bananas stuff in chocolate - buttons the easiest but any choc will do wrap them in buttered tin foil squares and either bbq them or put them in the oven for 10 mins. Serve with ice cream plus or minus a splash of brandy

ejt1764 · 15/06/2007 17:00

was going to suggest 'buttoned bananas', but McDreamy got there first!

Ok, how about
Meringue nests with strawberries and whipped cream - you can serve them just as they are, or bash up the meringues, chop the strawberries, and mix the whole lot together!

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 15/06/2007 17:01

No bananas left (dc finished them at lunch time). I've got a few strawbs but not enough for everyone. Grrr. I make a fab lemon cheesecake but I haven't got any of the ingredients.

Mmmm Eton Mess I love that ejt!

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 15/06/2007 17:02

Hmm...all good suggestions but I'm a bit ingredient lacking. I may... have to pop to tescos...

What have you got, need some ingediants to inspire me

spudmasher · 15/06/2007 17:02

Got any of those plastic ikea cups?
Put a blob of jam in each one. Whip up a basic sponge mix and half fill each cup. Give it 4mins in the microwave and one minute to stand. Turn it out (don't forget to butter the cups!) and you have a lovely jam sponge castle pudding type thing. Never fails to please in the Spud household. Bit of cream or custard .....

CuttingCod · 15/06/2007 17:03

posh ice cream

strawbetrries

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 15/06/2007 17:09

Got flour, butter, eggs, sugar, coca, apples, handful of strawberries, that's about it. Am beginning to think tescos is the only option. Could make an apple crumble I suppose but can't really be bothered!

pancakes?

Chopster · 15/06/2007 17:12

fruit fool?
whisk up icing sugar and double cream with a dash of lemon juice and almond essence. Add any pureed fruit you fancy.

Chopster · 15/06/2007 17:12

I do staawberries, then lay some chopped ones on top with a sprig of mint for ponciness.

McDreamy · 15/06/2007 17:13

Or should that be crepes with apples simmer in cinnamon?

Chopster · 15/06/2007 17:14

Just seen your ingredient list. Make pancakes or crepes, then fill with apple. Micro the apple with a bit of lemon juice, add sugar, and cinamon if you have it.

WideWebWitch · 15/06/2007 17:14

Fairy cakes? REALLY quick...

Have you got

125g self raising
125g sugar
125g butter
1tsp baking powder
1tsp vanilla essence
2 eggs

???
Put all above in a mixer, blend, adding a splash of milk if necessary, cook for 15 mins ish at 180. Ice once cool.

Put some pink icing and strawbs on top

Crotchety · 15/06/2007 17:18

You want something light after goulash. I still reckon off to the shop for strawberries...

McDreamy · 15/06/2007 17:19

Great minds and all thst Chopster - I reckon our idea is the best

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 15/06/2007 17:22

Fruit with greek yoghurt and crushed ginger biscuits is a pudding though!

DANCESwithnewlytannedlegs · 15/06/2007 17:27

Hee hee! Ganging up on a pudding thread, whatever next! Goulash isn't rich as it's a vege version and no cream, yog instead. I'm going to ask dh to get some strawbs on the way home...giving into peer pressure ...although....waitrose do a mighty fine tart au citron...
