Who wants to enter here please. This will be fab. Now we have to find some judges. I think we should put thread in chat and ask someone to judge based on their credentials Obviously they will be only looking at a pic not tasting. We need rules as well??? Good idea or not.

Freeze (unfilled) and if it doesn't work use for trifle? It may go soggy as it defrosts.

yoyo · 16/06/2007 09:38

Purplemonkey - did you add all the eggs in one go in your curdled picture? The butter must be very soft and the eggs are almost dripped in - much easier on the wrist to get the pale and fluffy look.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 16/06/2007 10:01

yoyo - the butter i used was cheap and hard. very hard to cream, i didn't matter which method i used (except using an electric mixer. i don't have one otherwise i would have tried it!!). i usually have better luck with my creaming. my LDC always turns out good!

MrsTweedy · 16/06/2007 10:08

I find VSC freezes really well when cut into slices & wrapped individually (I also usually freeze it with whipped cream in and like to eat it with the cream still slightly frozen - a guilty pleasure)

janemw · 16/06/2007 10:13

Ooh sounds lovely MrsTweedy, may have to go and try that!!

janemw · 16/06/2007 10:14

Thanks also ChippyMinton, hopefully it wouldn't be soggy but good idea for trifle! Have you tried freezing it then?

Slubberdegullion · 16/06/2007 11:19

Right, I'm just about to commence stretching and mental imagary (focusing on the perfectly risen sponge). Will wait until DC are asleep and then MN cake baking begineth.

The weather up here is truly appauling so all shots will have to be inside today

Slubberdegullion · 16/06/2007 13:19

They're in. My word the tension here is palpable.

Slubberdegullion · 16/06/2007 14:26

And we're done

What the pictures do not show is today, whilst cake baking I listened to Stanford's 'For Lo, I raise Up, and the Morning, Communion and Evening Service in C'.

SlightlyMadScientist · 16/06/2007 14:29

Right am waiting for DD£ to go to sleep before embarking on my cake.....BUT i am a bit worried that we have a mega storm going at teh moment and my oven is electric. What will I do if I get a popwer cut?!?!?!?

Mixing is not a prob of course as electricity i s obviously not required for a wooden spoon!!!

SlightlyMadScientist · 16/06/2007 14:30

PMSL at the sieve!!!!!

Didn't stop your zits though did iit?

Slubberdegullion · 16/06/2007 14:35

Nope, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

how do I get them feckers out?

Grooveisintheheart · 16/06/2007 14:38

SlightlyMadScientist · 16/06/2007 14:58

Get your wooden spoon out - you know it makes sense...

ChippyMinton · 16/06/2007 14:59

your pinny is more flattering than mine
LOL at sievage from altitude.

kickassangel · 16/06/2007 15:30

somehow you persuaded your dh into taking tha picture din't you? i stillhaven't confessed to mine what i'm up to, aolthough he did ask why the best china was out!

kickassangel · 16/06/2007 15:44

i am beginning to wuss out of posting my pics as i have serious sticking issues - i need some proper greaseproof paper, not a supermarket roll. i may even buy some of that lakeland stuff if i go anywhere near one, but that's unlikely in the next few weeks

SlightlyMadScientist · 16/06/2007 17:02

I just got a serious when I picked up the camera....

Is out and am happy with the results and lack of zits

MrsTweedy · 16/06/2007 18:01

Good grief there's no way I can match Slubberdegullion's props and styling! I'm very impressed with the dedication to sifting from on high.

UCM · 16/06/2007 18:06

I have just shown my friend that pic of you sifting from 'up high'. She & I both giggling like schoolgirls.

You should actually win on props alone. They ARE FAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UCM · 16/06/2007 18:07

I have been perusing the cakes and they all look yummy.

SlightlyMadScientist · 16/06/2007 18:08

Indeed - my only prop is the roses tin which my cake currently resides in!!!

Will post the pics tomorrow am whilst DP is in bed .

I should warn you that I have found a new wonderful product - apparently it is called raspberry jam - but it is an unusually colour - a creamy white colour. I have been doing a bit of sciency tinkering and genetic modification with my raspberries . It is jam honest guv .

How many other entrants are we awaiting?

shergar · 16/06/2007 18:18

Slubberdegullion, I am PMSL at your sifting from a great height! Absolutely brilliant! I am going to bake mine tonight but I don't see HOW yours can be improved upon.

yoyo · 16/06/2007 18:30

Slubber - fabulous photos. Also chortling. Do you actually have the picture on display in your house or have you bought it just for this? Terrific presentation.

janemw · 16/06/2007 19:00

Love the sifting!! I didn't use grease proof on mine, I just buttered and then floured the tins, usually works if you do it well enough!! How many others are entering?
