I don't and quite frankly don't care. She loved me enough to give me a party and that's enough.

Don't remember at all but then I am 43.

Would have been home-made tho as "bought cake" a total no-no in my childhood. M

2 swiss rolls side by side

UCM · 02/06/2007 23:49

Yeeees but only because as a child my greatest wish was bought pink & yellow Battenburg cake and it was always something homemade that she'd spent ages over. Ugrateful little beggar that I was.

I'm pretty sure some kids want bought cake. I'm pretty sure most don't care.

purpleflower · 02/06/2007 23:52

All cakes have always been made by my wonderful auntie, it was the birthday highlight as they were amazing. so yes we would've noticed

hoxtonchick · 02/06/2007 23:52

i remember my mum making my cakes. and the party where we all had our tea in separate boxes (i think i was 5). it's partly why i make my kid's cakes (well, mostly. dd was fobbed off with an m&s effort for her 1st birthday. will do better this year!).

bookthief · 02/06/2007 23:53

My mum knitted me a bat wing jumper. It was black with a shocking pink and electric blue stripe on one sleeve. I loved that jumper .

expatinscotland · 02/06/2007 23:53

No. Don't care, either.

winniepoo · 02/06/2007 23:54

Can't remember but I make my sons and they are crap but it makes me feel good

Clary · 02/06/2007 23:54

well than must rack brains....

Recall giving mum a present once of a "recipe book" which featured a snowman cake I loved (recipes cut out by me from magazines.)

She made the cake for me!

Flame · 02/06/2007 23:54

Mine were homemade and I loved them.

Clary · 02/06/2007 23:54

I had a batwing cardie knitted by my mum when she was ill in hospital once. Oh how I loved it (going back a few years now )

my mum made all of our cakes (there was 6 of us!) and they were fantastic. i'm good at making cakes but not yet perfected the art of icing them to perfection but i have made every one so far for my two ds's - DS1's request last birthday was for a lightening Mcqueen cake. haven't yet been given my orders for ds2's this month am hoping for a lego brick or something.[ hmm]

i do it becuase i want to and enjoy it, i don't think dc's care too much as long as it's the theme they want and they have a cake with candles.

my mother did not allow me to have partys

bookthief · 02/06/2007 23:58

I wore my bat wing jumper to the guide/scout disco with a black pencil skirt, black stilletos and fuschia tights. Classy lassy . It was the 80s mind...

NoBiggy · 02/06/2007 23:58

I remember she made a teddy bear cake, and a hedgehog cake, also a Tardis cake. Also remember her buying a Kermit cake and a Paddington cake.

They were all fab and all cake.

It was about 1986 and I was 14.

I feel your pain sally, as I've confessed previously I had hand-me-down brown flip flops and it caused me some mental anguish at the time.

Clary · 03/06/2007 00:03

Yeah my batwing cardie was when I was at college, mid 80s too.

NoBiggy · 03/06/2007 00:05

Crap.

My mother never made me a batwing cardie.

I shall have words with her in the morning.
