I don't and quite frankly don't care. She loved me enough to give me a party and that's enough.

I've just realised that it may have sounded like I was comparing your mum's lovingly hand made jumper with some skanky second-hand brown flip flops .

What I meant was that I really, really wanted flip flops and my mum, bless her, got me some but they were brown which was a disaster at the time. Which still makes me sound really ungrateful as looking back I don't think my mum could afford to buy me any and I probably made a right fuss.

at your mum - that's such 70s kids party etiquette! Do you still have to eat a sandwich before you can have a cake?

My mum will be exactly the same when her gc are old enough.

I'm going to try to get kids to play The Farmer's In His Den and In and Out the Dusty Bluebells and they'll all stand there looking at me like some dusty relic from the past

Clary · 03/06/2007 00:24

no no bookthief, my DD plays dusty bluebells at school all the time!

I never had a party, ever. So would never have had a cake.

I remember when I was 9 I told a girl in my class I was having a party & that she was invited.

Her mam dropped her off at mine after school, her complete with party dress, ribbons in her hair & a parcel in her hand. My mam stood on the doorstep & looked at her... she said "We're having chips & sausages for dinner, you can like it or lump it"

said girl sat uncomfortably at our kitchen beside me & my 7 siblings.... & went to school the next day & told everyone I didn't have a prty, it was just dinner & I had lied

But she & I remained very very good friends until she moved away to go to uni & we lost touch

Ooohhhh, now there's an idea

I had a black one with a flourescent bat on it! [I know flourescent is spelt wrong but it's late & I'm not going to look it up 'cos I can't be arsed]

I remember my mam knitting my sister & I a suit! My skirt was green & the jumper was grey & green. Julie's skirt was red & her jumper was grey & red! She always got the most feminine colours... I always had the dolls with the yellow dresses & she got red/pink.... hmmmmmmmmm

fireflyfairy2 · 03/06/2007 00:46

I just put my sisters name
