Anniversary starter - ideas please!

It is our anniversary this Sunday so I am making a special meal (DH pays for ingredients but I don't want to eat his cooking!)

We are having breaded rack of lamb for main and chocolate sauce covered profiteroles for pudding.

I am pregnant (so no pate or baked brie!) and he refuses to eat vegetables or fruit so what can I do?

Ideas gratefully recieved!

actually when PG you can eat cooked cheeses, as it replaces the apsteurisation

But anyway.....

crudites with dips, small thai crab fishcakes ; sorbet; soup?

Chirpygirl · 17/05/2007 16:19

great suggestions but he won't eat veg, so can't have 'normal' crudites, he hates crab (god, he's not really that much of a whiny bitch)
I don't like soup unless I am ill!

We would normally have breaded mushrooms with brie or mushrooms in sherry but I am having an alcohol aversion so that's no good

(And I know about the cheese thing, but DH is a stickler for government guidelines....)

TBH he sounds like a right old PITA and I wouldnt bother with a starter.

Jezebeltheharlot · 17/05/2007 16:24

Salmon fishcakes with chilli dipping sauce

Hummus, taramasalata and tzatziki with pitta bread

Mushroom risotto

Tuna pate and melba toast

What are you going to serve with the lamb if he doesnt eat veg?

Chirpygirl · 17/05/2007 16:25

Thanks but I think I will bother!

how does he survive without veg or fruit?

Chirpygirl · 17/05/2007 16:26

I will have veg and he will have potatoes.

Some good ideas though, ta!

garlaic mushrooms?

MamaG · 17/05/2007 16:27

er

crisps?

nailopish · 17/05/2007 16:28

blinis with smoked salmon or prawns or scallops and creme fraich

Chirpygirl · 17/05/2007 16:29

Don't ask np, he eats some if it is 'hidden' (ie he knows it is there but can't taste it) but otherwise he has juice and mulitvitamins.

It's all the fault of the woman that looked after him after school between the ages of 3 and 16.....

PeachyChocolateEClair · 17/05/2007 16:45

DH is a sticker for govnmt guidelines

it is accepted that cooked cheese is OK

And in which cupboard did you leave your own mind?

nailopish · 17/05/2007 17:22

yes i agree

dh is a stickler

ignore him

Chirpygirl · 17/05/2007 17:36

How do you mean Peachy? DH doesn't like fruit and veg, I can hardly force feed him!

And he doesn't want me to take the risk with cheese so why shouldn't I humour him, I know it's not very likely but it's his baby too?

OP posts:
Chirpygirl · 17/05/2007 17:37

np, pasta is good, but we eat it all the time.

We have plenty of meals we eat all the time but I wanted to know if someone could come up with something I hadn't thought of!

OP posts:
PeachyChocolateEClair · 17/05/2007 19:02

Yeah if you want to avoid cheese thats abosolutely OK of course

But quote:

'DH is a stickler for government guidelines....) '

which conjured up images of him banning you, and I know if Dh tried to ban me from something I'd be having double!

Chirpygirl · 17/05/2007 20:05

Aah, with you! No he doesn't ban me, he wouldn't fecking dare, he just keeps asking
Are you sure you can eat that...I mean, are you sure...it won't hurt the baby? Are you sure?
Which kind of ruins the meal!

And no need to point out that he takes all that as gospel yet won't eat 5 a day.....!
