How do YOU make tuna mayo?

I was just making myself some lunch and realised I don't add vinegar or pepper like my mother does. Is that common? Mine is literally a can of drained tuna and some mayo.

Really want some tuna mayo now...

foobio · 27/02/2018 16:28

I had no idea there were so many variations! And surprised noone has suggested mine:
Tuna in oil
Mayo
Half a teaspoon of wholegrain mustard
A grind of black pepper

FluffyWuffy100 · 27/02/2018 18:44

Tuna
Mayo
Salad cream
Finley diced red onion
Finley diced red pepper
Black peppers
Squeeze of lemon

slices of cucumber in the sandwich but not chopped up in the tuna mayo

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 27/02/2018 21:26

OOoh...black olives! I do like black olives in there.

llangennith · 27/02/2018 21:36

I prefer salad cream with it rather than mayo.

Notso · 27/02/2018 21:41

This is why I hate eating food other people have made. You just can't trust them not to put random ingredients into seemingly simple foods.

Tuna Mayo for me is a can of tuna steak in spring water or oil. Never bought the brine one,
Mayo,
Pepper,
Salt.

I like onions, olives and cucumber but not in the mixture.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/02/2018 21:43

I agree notso although we add a bit of lemon juice - (cos it's fish innit! :o)

Anything else added makes it a tuna salad.

Consideredintrusion · 27/02/2018 21:48

Have made this a couple times for newly converted vegan family memebers. It’s a total faff but wasn’t too bad all in all.

I drain the tuna, salt it, add a bit of olive oil, mix with sweetcorn and a chopped red onion and mix with lemon mayo. Sometimes I use seafood sauce o chilli mayo instead of plain mayonnaise if I fancy a change. And sometimes I'm a bit naughty and also stir in some grated mature cheddar cheese or chopped roasted red pepper, the type you get in a jar. Olives in occasion too, or sliced egg for DH.
You can put anything in it, really.
Making me hungry!

PissedOffNeighbour · 27/02/2018 21:55

Tuna, mayo, chopped spring onion and lashings of black pepper.

Kintan · 27/02/2018 22:13

Tuna, mayo, pinch of salt, splash of olive oil, sweetcorn. Some times a drop of chilli oil too depending on who is eating it.

It originated in the US where we call it tuna salad. Our preferred family recipe is tuna (water packed), mayo, a small bit of mustard, finely chopped sweet onion, celery, pickle relish, lime juice, a little salt and a lot of pepper. I also like a bit of hot sauce in mine. Here in the Southern US, it's traditional to also put in chopped boiled egg, but we don't do that because the beauty of tuna salad is that there is no cooking involved.

bittern79 · 27/02/2018 22:15

Tuna, ketchup and mayo. But some of these suggestions sound good...

FridgeCut · 28/02/2018 07:27

Tomorrow I am going to try adding ketchup. Might try a few options over the next few weeks, refine my recipe. Black olives will not feature.

This thread is great. I’ll definitely be borrowing some suggestions from here. I’m currently suffering from hyperemesis but as soon as I’m better .....

FridgeCut · 28/02/2018 19:26

Hyperemesis or even bog standard pregnancy sickness and tuna do not mix. You don't want to blow that out your nose!

I drain a can of tuna (in spring water) and mix with grated carrot and mayo.I have it in a baked potato.

FridgeCut · 01/03/2018 12:33

Curve ball there, how much carrot? I like the sound of that.

OP posts:
LouiseBrooksLook · 01/03/2018 13:24

I put about a third grated carrot in to two thirds tuna mayo.It is called "Tuna Crunch".

ILikeyourHairyHands · 21/12/2018 00:37

Tuna in brine, plenty of mayo, chopped gherkins.

'Tis the best.

n0ne · 22/12/2018 09:32

My mum's version is the best: tuna, mayo, grated onion, garlic powder, lemon juice, dried thyme, and a good slug of Bajan yellow pepper sauce. Caribbean loveliness!

Bluesheep8 · 26/12/2018 08:47

For me, tuna in brine, finely chopped red pepper and red onion, mayo and salad cream. Yum

Knittink · 26/12/2018 08:51

Tuna (in spring water), mayo, black pepper, sweetcorn. I can't believe people add salt - tuna and mayo are both really salty!
