How do YOU make tuna mayo?

I was just making myself some lunch and realised I don't add vinegar or pepper like my mother does. Is that common? Mine is literally a can of drained tuna and some mayo.

Tuna (in spring water), mayo, black pepper, sweetcorn. I can't believe people add salt - tuna and mayo are both really salty!

My mum's version is the best: tuna, mayo, grated onion, garlic powder, lemon juice, dried thyme, and a good slug of Bajan yellow pepper sauce. Caribbean loveliness!

Tomorrow I am going to try adding ketchup. Might try a few options over the next few weeks, refine my recipe. Black olives will not feature.

It originated in the US where we call it tuna salad. Our preferred family recipe is tuna (water packed), mayo, a small bit of mustard, finely chopped sweet onion, celery, pickle relish, lime juice, a little salt and a lot of pepper. I also like a bit of hot sauce in mine. Here in the Southern US, it's traditional to also put in chopped boiled egg, but we don't do that because the beauty of tuna salad is that there is no cooking involved.

I drain the tuna, salt it, add a bit of olive oil, mix with sweetcorn and a chopped red onion and mix with lemon mayo. Sometimes I use seafood sauce o chilli mayo instead of plain mayonnaise if I fancy a change. And sometimes I'm a bit naughty and also stir in some grated mature cheddar cheese or chopped roasted red pepper, the type you get in a jar. Olives in occasion too, or sliced egg for DH.
You can put anything in it, really.

Have made this a couple times for newly converted vegan family memebers. It’s a total faff but wasn’t too bad all in all.

Anything else added makes it a tuna salad.

This is why I hate eating food other people have made. You just can't trust them not to put random ingredients into seemingly simple foods.

Tuna Mayo for me is a can of tuna steak in spring water or oil. Never bought the brine one,
Mayo,
Pepper,
Salt.

I like onions, olives and cucumber but not in the mixture.

Tuna in oil
Mayo
Half a teaspoon of wholegrain mustard
A grind of black pepper

I always put loads of black pepper, grated onion, a squeeze of lemon, the mayo, and if I'm feeling frisky, a goodly dollop of Caribbean yellow pepper sauce. Yum!
