we're arranging a "1980s" style dinner to celebrate this year's eurovision with friends. so far we've decided on dessert - a choice of black forest gateaux and arctic roll. ideas for starter and main - breaded garlic mushrooms and chicken kiev - although fairly similar. can't serve seafood so prawn cocktail is out. any iideas gratefully received. also alcoholic drinks - no blue nun or liebfraumilch please.......

my mum loved cooking chicken chasseur in the 80s!

Avocado vinaigrette.

AnnabelCaramel · 29/03/2007 20:15

What you've suggested is 70s rather than 80s - 80s was all poncey little things with kiwi fruit!

tribpot · 29/03/2007 20:16

Wasn't chilled red wine popular in the 80s for a while? I was a bit young for that sort of thing!

harpsichordcarrier · 29/03/2007 20:17

Avocado, all fanned out

Just realised all of my suggestions were alcoholic ones, no food .

In my defence it was the decade I could drink legally and went to uni.

Delia does a fab Beef Bourguignon which she says was popular in the 70s, when people went to bistros. It is tops, totally recommended.
