I am doing the food myself, for about 15 to 20 children (aged 0 to 6) and maybe 30 adults?

So far I have thought of:

-strawberries half dipped in chocolate
-tiny pinwheel sandwiches - with cream cheese? any other fillings?
-grapes
-olives
-vegetable bits to dip in hummus and sour cream

I am a bit stuck for easy foods for the adults. My intention is that this will be the children's main meal, with enough things for the adults to nibble, so that they only need a snack later on, type of thing. We don't eat meat or fish. Come and tell me what was a hit at your party, please

jelly boats?
**

halve oranges & squeeze juice & scoop out flesh(juice can be used to make the jelly later)

put all orange halves on trays, pour liquid jelly into oranges & refridgerate till set.

Cut halves into quaters with sharp knife.
make masts with toothpicks & triangular sails with coloured paper.
voila....jelly boats!

OK Poncey for the olives at a kids party and strawberries dipped in chocolate. Only IMVVVHO

Sorry to take the p

FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2007 21:37

We had cous cous today with spinach and mint leaves, peas, feta & olives - that was nice. Easily made too.

Beauregard · 18/03/2007 21:38

Aha! so it is a squashed and meddled with sandwhich, how vulgar.

ledodgy · 18/03/2007 21:38

Yes they are nice cold when they are really small as they'r eisn't that much postato in them or scrap the potato bit and just make potato skins with melted cheese these are deffo nice hot or cold.

WaynettaSlob · 18/03/2007 21:39

I would do the following:
Pizza (ham and cheese), cut in slivers
cockatail sausages (they all love 'em)
cherry tomatoes, carrots, peppers, cucumber
hula hoops
raisins

Adults can nibble whatever the kids don't want.

To drink: water, apple juice, beer and wine (latter two for the adults, natch!)

FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2007 21:40

Yes the strawbs ARE poncy I can't deny that

the olives are probably ds's favourite food so I am taking no responsibility for that one though, I think they are little balls of repulsion

we are feeding the adults as well though crunchie, what would you suggest instead? Packets of monster munch?

  • really???? I am getting impressed now

ledodgy · 18/03/2007 21:40

or you could just take them out of the oven in time for the party.

MuminBrum · 18/03/2007 21:40

Can I have your breadstick recipe please?

Hathor · 18/03/2007 21:40

Pinwheel sandwiches

crunchie · 18/03/2007 21:40

add vodka lullabyloo and I'd be there

F&Z I am all for the poncey food for adults, I just find it works less well for kids, I am a canape queen and can do faffy looking (but really simple) creations with teh best of them. But kids parties, has to be marmite and jam sandwiches (spearately) crisps, cakes and chocolate. Just as I had 30 something years ago

FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2007 21:41

Ooh a cold salad - check

but not couscous as I don't really like it much (and it is so messy when it gets dropped)

raisins also hideously messy underfoot don't you think Waynetta?

Water and juice - check and check

OP posts:
crunchie · 18/03/2007 21:43

BTW adults usually eat that too as they are taken back to their youth I always find the mums and dads in the corner, pretending to make sure little jonny has 'healthy' food on his plate whilst secretly stuffing jam sarnies in his or her mouths

WaynettaSlob · 18/03/2007 21:43

Good point Franny, how about some alices of melon instead?

WaynettaSlob · 18/03/2007 21:44

alices = slices (!)

FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2007 21:44

Ledodgy it is in a hall

all food must be cold and pref able to make SOME in advance

crunchie there is not going to be any marmite, I would come over all funny

MuminBrum certainly, watch this space

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2007 21:45

Ooooh

checketty check

or is it a bit messy?

OP posts:
MuminBrum · 18/03/2007 21:46

Thanks F&Z. I think you're right about [grin}, if you're called sweet on a narky thread you can be pretty sure you yanked someone's chain!

MuminBrum · 18/03/2007 21:46

Melon would be less messy (and more ironic and retro) if it was in balls on sticks.

FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2007 21:46

Crunchie I do like "helping" ds finish the sandwiches at parties, there is something about the bland fillings and the tininess of them

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2007 21:47

Oh lord all these things on sticks

half the children are about 2, there will be carnage

no I can't really have all these sticks can I?

OP posts:
crunchie · 18/03/2007 21:48

exactly

tinie, weenie jam sandwiches Honey ones remind of of teddy bears picnics

FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2007 21:52

Oh I really CANNOT bear jam sandwiches

something about the savoury bread and the sweet jam

and honey is just bleeeeeeugh

OP posts:
Lullabyloo · 18/03/2007 21:52
