I am doing the food myself, for about 15 to 20 children (aged 0 to 6) and maybe 30 adults?

So far I have thought of:

-strawberries half dipped in chocolate
-tiny pinwheel sandwiches - with cream cheese? any other fillings?
-grapes
-olives
-vegetable bits to dip in hummus and sour cream

I am a bit stuck for easy foods for the adults. My intention is that this will be the children's main meal, with enough things for the adults to nibble, so that they only need a snack later on, type of thing. We don't eat meat or fish. Come and tell me what was a hit at your party, please

What about samosas?

Or burek-type pastries?

I make a very nice cheese pastry from Claudia Roden's book of Jewish Food. Mix of cottage cheese, gruyere and cheddar, wrapped in filo. Baked in oven. Nice cold. Slightly fiddly to make, but no more than pinwheel sandwiches really.

There's also a nice aubergine filling.

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 10:22

Mellowma what is your stance on presents? Do you tend to buy fairly traded instruments made from sustainable forests, or a great big lump of plastic from Asda?

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 10:23

I really really really have a thing about not fooling about with pastry or anything like it

will you make them for me becky?

OP posts:
CODalmighty · 19/03/2007 10:23

is it liek marmite then
kidn of ssalty tasting?

CODalmighty · 19/03/2007 10:23

btw in my espeirence kdis never weeat sandwhiches

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 10:24

it is salty but nowhere near as much as marmite

kind of like a savoury, smooth vegetable pate?

Ds eats ALL the sandwiches

he just sits there until they are gone

plus as mentioned adults like to eat the tiny ones

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 10:26

oh the reason he eats all the sandwiches is because we only have home made bread at home and he thinks shop bought is a divine treat (I admit to seeing his point )

OP posts:
beckybrastraps · 19/03/2007 10:30

It's so easy.

But no.

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 10:31

oh fair enough

Nice bread - crusty baguette type bread - and butter (not marg) was a surprise hit at my DSs' party a couple of years ago!

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 10:36

mmmmmm nice bread

OP posts:
MrsPhilipGlenister · 19/03/2007 10:38

Ooh, sorry, just saw that you make all yours - not implying for one second that yours isn't nice ...

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 10:41

well see my comment earlier

(I wouldn't be making the bread for the party, as you need sliced bread to do the pin wheel thingies, really. May make some nice granary rolls for the adults?)

Mars Bar Crispie cake:

3 Mars Bars chopped
3 oz butter
3 oz Rice Crispies

..multiply as appropriate (melt butter & mars bars into gooey mess, add rice crispies, pack into appropriate shape tray and chill). It certainly doesn't qualify as healthy, but you can cut it (once well chilled) into v.small pieces
