Just in time for the Whimberry season....

soapbox · 05/07/2004 14:39

Oh do try some savory ones - walnut and stilton, brie and grapes, bacon and cheddar, tomato and basil, rockett and parmesan. Just make the mix without sugar and crumble the added ingredients in then add salt and pepper. They are really yummy!

Try this recipe, its wonderful

6oz wholewheat flour
4oz cornflour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 pint milk
2 tablespoons oil
7oz can of sweetcorn
3oz grated cheese

  1. Mix flours, baking powder and salt.
  2. In another bowl mix egg, honey and milk. Then mix this thouroughly into the flours.
  3. Stir in oil, sweetcorn and cheese.
  4. Grease tray of 12 deep bun tins, and spoon in the mixture. 5.Bake near top of oven Gas 7, 425F, 220C for 10 - 12 mins.

Delicious served piping hot with chesse or soups, or with a New England Casserole.
