You watch. In a few days there'll be some threads about the dodgy nature of Marslady and her upbringing of children lol!

They'll all look strangely at me at meetups now.

MamaG · 23/02/2007 16:02

Good... now no more starting threads that ruin my reputation

What did you go for in the end? Roasting tin? Loaf tin and muffin tin?

MamaG · 24/02/2007 08:56

I've had a piece for breakfast

DH ate FOUR pieces last night!

Big, big thanks to you Marspornlady

Lemon Drizzle Cake

9oz sugar
9oz butter
12oz s/r flour
4 eggs
3 level tsp baking powder
6 tblsp milk
grated rind 2 lemons

Mix all together. Put in lined tray. Bake about 30-40 mins (until knife comes out clean). Prick cake with fork and pour over some warm lemon juice (see below).

Squeeze the juice from the lemons and heat (20 secs in microwave). Add icing sugar to consistency you like. Spread over cake.

(i only cooked mine for 25 mins tho as per Mars instructions! fork came out clean etc)

Is this better baked as a sandwich or as a loaf? I hope it doesn't matter as I've made it sandwich tins as I didn't have any greaseproof or foil.

Is this is a record - open a thread at 6.30, cake in oven by 6.45? Couldn't resist.

Marscentio · 24/02/2007 19:42

How's the cake kbear? It's better however you want to bake it!

auntymandy · 24/02/2007 20:10

mmmmmmmmmm. 2 cakes baked!! Ready for an evening of over indulgence!!!

Kbear · 24/02/2007 21:39

Mars, I just drizzled it. I am so full from my Chinese takeaway I haven't tried it yet but give it half an hour and I'll make room!

Kbear · 24/02/2007 21:58

...but then you mentioned it so I had to go and get some. It was blardy luvly.

Marscentio · 24/02/2007 22:13

My work here is done!

Kbear · 25/02/2007 08:42

Is it too early for lemon drizzle cake? I was thinking it could be a healthy breakfast option, what with all the lemon = fruit?

Kbear · 25/02/2007 08:55

no it's not too early

another cuppa to wash it down!

foxtrot · 25/02/2007 09:55

I have a huge pile of muffins, but ran out of icing sugar, so no yummy drizzle on them yet

MamaG · 25/02/2007 12:07

lol KBear

In fact it's turned into Lemon Drizzle Sunday - it's a great weekend!

Marscentio · 25/02/2007 15:34

What better way to spend a Sunday

tassis · 25/02/2007 15:41

ooooh, I'm going to make this too.

mars, can you just talk me through the drizzling bit please?

SherlockLGJ · 25/02/2007 15:45

Mars

Have e-mailed you.

Marscentio · 25/02/2007 15:49

You do the "drizzling" however you want to babe.

I heat the lemon juice for about 20secs in the microwave and then spoon 3-4 tbs over the warm cake (making sure I've pricked holes in it first).

Then I keep adding icing sugar to the rest of the lemon juice until it is as thick (or thin) as I want it. My kids like the icing thick.

An alternative is to mix granulated sugar with the COLD lemon juice (as much as you want really) and then pour that over the warm, pricked cake.

Does that help?

Which addy Sherlock?
