wurlywurly · 12/01/2007 20:48

popsycat there is nothing wrong with fruit or veg from there, when we was on holiday last year we did our weeks shopping in lidls for the first time ever and the only thing that we didnt like was a pack of there ready cooked sausage rolls.

fairydust · 12/01/2007 20:49

apple juice is fab

popsycal · 12/01/2007 20:53

i have found that the soft fruit and veg (eg toomatoes, courgette, etc) at our local aldi are not brilliant - often marked and not good quality
am sure that vaires from store to store though

singsalot · 12/01/2007 21:46

Aldi

Breadsticks
Cheese straw type things
pizzas from the fridge
fresh pasta (tortelloni)
pesto
lager
wine
I could go on and on but I won't, think those are my best selection.

Catalepticdru · 13/01/2007 09:00

Lidl
I couldn't recommend the vintage cheddar as it was very strong but tasteless.
Last night dh and I had the quatro formaggio and prosciutto pizzas. They were very good for 99p each!
Orange juice is nice and cheap too.
I find they are bit hit and miss with regards to availability of fruit and veg, maybe because I go after work. But can also recommend the white and brown premium farmhouse loaves, excellent value and really nice bread too.

eidsvold · 13/01/2007 09:03

our aldi in Aus - jaffa cakes and their nappies!!

popsycal · 13/01/2007 11:15

I asked about this the other day and a few people said bread was bad. I got a batch loaf from Aldi which was very good. Also part-baked ciabatta very good too.

Ceolas · 13/01/2007 11:17

Oh and little cartons of orange/apple juice. Cheap and have gone down well

popsycal · 13/01/2007 11:18

My cat will only eat aldi cat food. We also buy the cooked meats and my son loves the penne pasta with bolognese sauce from the freezer section. Also their houmous and muffins are really good.
