blossomsmine · 22/03/2009 20:05

Well, i did manage to control myself and we cut the cake this afternoon!

It was gorgeous!!

Thanks very much

Haribolicious · 23/03/2009 19:24

Thanks so much for ressurecting this thread - I made this for a friend's birthday and it was delicious! The quantity was enough to make 2 cakes (a square tin for friend and a smaller one in a loaf tin for us...hurray!) I also added more lemon as suggested and it was scrummy
FLRAL - great tip for next time I make this!

blossomsmine · 24/03/2009 11:55

Well, this cake certainly doesn't hang around!!!

I made it Sunday and it has got even better as the time has gone by, moister (is that a word lol!)

I have had to save the last couple of pieces for my sister who is coming round later

FairLadyRantALot · 24/03/2009 14:08

lol blossom...it seems to disappear mightily quick in our house, too......

Peachy · 24/03/2009 14:16

Oh fab, saves me searching for this- cake sale I have to bake for on Saturday (in Ilminster if anyone there LOL )

LDC, Brownies, Seed cake, Refridgerator Cake, Biscuit Lollies (made using my new bunny shaped lolly pan), and maybe mint choc chip fridge cake f I can be arsed.

Stuck in waiting for tumble dryer engineer anyway.

blossomsmine · 24/03/2009 16:32

......bunny shaped pan????? Please elaborate

bratnav · 24/03/2009 16:46

I have been dying to make this for ages, just a tiny question:

Is 170c ok for a fan oven? I had to re-bake my wedding cake because I didn't realise that you have to turn the temp down by 20c for fan ovens

FairLadyRantALot · 24/03/2009 17:10

well, I put it to 170 degree celsis wiht our fan-assisted oven and did 40 minutes...and it came out lovely and golden

bratnav · 24/03/2009 18:14

Thanks FairLady

blossomsmine · 25/03/2009 21:45

A friend came round and ate the last piece today..........she has now asked me to make one for her daughters birthday party!!!

Must be good

FairLadyRantALot · 26/03/2009 16:12

lol blossom...I had that happening with those Brownies (well, the Marsbar cake) last year...I was helping out at a Mums and Tots group and made that cake for several of the Kids....lol...

blossomsmine · 26/03/2009 23:22

Thats nice fairlady....but...I am not usually the bake for the kids school stalls kind of girl lol!!

Maybe i have become a proper mum all of a sudden lol!

FairLadyRantALot · 26/03/2009 23:24

time to grow up

blossomsmine · 26/03/2009 23:38

Guess so

chatname · 28/03/2009 08:49

Now suppose I used this to make individual cake for a party. How long would they need in the oven, at what temperature, if I use the basic recipe (9oz sugar/ butter, etc.)?

chatname · 28/03/2009 08:50

Added to say, I have dividers, so could be 16 individual cakes.

chatname · 28/03/2009 19:50

hmm, isn't there anyone who can help me? I need to know how long to cook this recipe and at what setting, if I am using 16 small tins rather than 1 big one.

Please?

blossomsmine · 29/03/2009 15:27

Sorry didn't see your message last night, chatname.

Not sure if i can help but i would measure your pan, it is supposed to be 9 x 11/13, if i remember rightly. Mine was abit longer than it should be but i used it anyway. I used a new pan, it is supposed to be a roasting dish (sainsburys) and i think it was about 2 and half inches high when it was cooked. It didn't really matter about the height as you then cut it into smallish pieces and they were just the right, individual size.

If your pan works out to be alot bigger than the sizes mentioned about i would use more ingredients.

Hope this helps.

FairLadyRantALot · 29/03/2009 15:29

Sorry wasn't around....did a little stint of real life.....lol....

anyway...looking at the tin, I would say go for the normal 30-40 minute cooking time....but to be on the save side, maybe start checking from 25 minutes onwards....

blossomsmine · 29/03/2009 16:11

Yes, fairlady, thats what i would do

FairLadyRantALot · 29/03/2009 16:37

oh, just reread, is chatname wanting to use seperate little tins...? I had jsut looked at teh link for the tin, and thought that was being used....if it is small individual tins, than, I suppose it would be worth checking after 20 minutes...
