Not a Mars bar traybake (but suppose there's nothing to stop you from trying a bigger version!) but has Mars Bars as an ingredient...sounds yummy and might have to try them!
(from Nigella Lawson's "Feast" book)

Chocolate Caramel Crispy cakes (makes 40)
55g Mars Bars
55g unsalted butter
70g cornflakes (can also use Rice Krispies)

Break the Mars Bars into bits and drop them into a saucepan, add butter and melt over a low heat, stirring frequently. When everything's melted (the nougat-like layer takes the longest to go), tip in the cornflakes and turn them in the chocolate mixture until they are all well coated. Fill mini-muffin cases with mixture and put in the fridge, on a small sheet or tray, for at least an hour.

Well, I finally made the LDC for the school fete but unfortunately didn't keep any for myself, so not sure how it tasted. Looked yummy though - it rose well and kept it's shape with is always a bonus when I bake!
Might make one next w/e just for us - although off limits for ds1 (allergic to eggs)

SlightlyMadSugar · 23/06/2007 19:38

Marssy - could you please post the choc version.....and could you be a bit more specific about 'big bar of choc and dollop of oil' for the topping?

mamama · 23/06/2007 19:54

SMS, read this thread for the choc cake recipe. I am making it tonight.

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 23/06/2007 20:37

is it just when i bake the LDC that it disintergrates (sp?) when you eat it? or is supposed to fall apart in your hands?!

it was absolutely gorgeous tho, and your right mars once you start you keep eating till you've finished!!!

off to have a look at the choc one now!

MarsLady · 24/06/2007 21:46

Big bar of chocolate.... milk or plain your choice. The biggest one you get in the supermarket. Dollop = I dunno.... a dollop!

mamama · 25/06/2007 05:33

Oooo, can vouch for MarsLady's choc cake - made it today for birthday party & it was a great success. If I get my piccies downloaded, I'll try to stick one on here!

FairLadyRantALot · 19/03/2009 18:09

I know seriously old thread...but just looked for Marslady's Lemon Drizzle cake, because I am off to make it for the very first time...
I hope it goes well, as I am planning on taking it to my Placement tomorrow, as it is my last day....

lucylue · 19/03/2009 18:31

do you add the butter melted?

FairLadyRantALot · 20/03/2009 20:24

lucy I didn't.....but let it soften a bit at room temperature.

Well...I made it last night and took it in to my placement today and it was a complete success...utterly devine! And I am not necessarily a lemonny cake lover....but I have been completely turned!
It was that good that I am making another one tomorrow for us...seeing that I have some lemons left over
I made some minor adjustments...I added extra milk....going by the "german" rule to get the mixture to a consistency that makes it "fall" off the spoon in slow, pulling motion....if that makes sense at all.....
oh and I used unsalted Butter...as that is what I always bake with, is just nicer...

blossomsmine · 21/03/2009 13:00

Wicked Chocolate Brownies
-10oz/280g Baking margarine ( I tend to use unsalted Butter,it's just nicer, tbh)
-13oz/375 Caster Sugar
-1tsp Baking Powder
-3oz/75g Cocoa Powder
-4oz/100g Plain Flour
-4oz/ 100g Plain chocolate Polka dots (have also done this with white chocolate ones, also yummy)
-4 eggs

Line a small roasting Tin (9x11 inch) with Baking Paper.
Measure all the ingredients together into a bowl and mix until well blended. This can be done in a processor, mixing in the polka dots by hand at the last minute. Spoon the mixture into the roasting tin and level the top.
Bake in a pre-heated Oven 190C/375F/Gas5 for about 40-45minutes (obviously reduce temp if using a Fan assisted oven)

It is devine...I also use this recipe when making a Mars Bar cake....I make and extra half of the mixture and and make to cakes using round tins, and than I melt Marsbars in double cream. put a good layer on top of one cake and place other over it and than spread the rest of the marsbar/cream mixute over the top...very nice....
I also sometimes chop marsbars up and add instead of teh polka dots...

blossomsmine · 21/03/2009 21:58

Just a quick question, i hope someone can help!!

Just made my first LDC, looks lovely, but.....do i keep it in the tray (its a small roasting tray) or do i take it out and ice it?? Was just wondering if it would fall apart if i tried to take it out??

FairLadyRantALot · 21/03/2009 22:21

I line the tin with baking paper and lift the cake out by lifting the edges of the baking papers;
and than I ice it.....

otherwise I probably would wait till I could safely tip it out of the tin...

blossomsmine · 21/03/2009 22:44

Thank you

I let it cool and then it came out really easily, so thats good!!

Can't eat it till tomorrow cos my mum is coming round.......!!
