cauliflower cheese recipe please.

Also..... if the cauliflower is very green and not white at all (came with my veg bag today), should I

a)wait for it to ripen/turn white?
b)say sod it and cook it anyway?
c)ah who really cares anyway?

MarsLady · 04/10/2006 17:39

LadyTophamHatt · 04/10/2006 17:40

wouldn't cook a green cauli TBH but recipe for ours is, boil whole cauli, make cheesse suace, pour over top, spinkle with breadcrumbs and extra cheese and grill for 10 mins.

I can't believe the lady who does the famous lemon drizzle cake can't cook cauli cheese....thi smust be a joke thread....

MarsLady · 04/10/2006 17:44

LTH... I hate hate hate cauliflower.... bleurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to swap it with one of the other mothers who seemed to adore the stuff, but she's no longer at school so.... time to make the foul stuff! Bleuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (or have I said that already?)

So.. not making it tonight as it's green... how do I get it to go white?

I refuse to have it in my box. It's the only veg I refuse. I suspect white foods of having little to no nutrition, and besides, it's gross, like brocolli without the flavour and with worse texture.

MarsLady · 04/10/2006 17:48

I think I'll adopt that stance NQC... ta!

It won't go white! It is a different species - a cross between cauli and broccoli and cauli is very important nutritionally as it is a cruciferous vegetable full of cancer-fighting compounds. Look here all about green cauli!

NotQuiteCockney · 04/10/2006 17:58

Meh, I'm not sure about weird green cauli.

Seriously, what white foods are good for you? Parsnips are sugar in root form. White carbs are rubbish. And cauli is gross. I rest my case.

TarkaTheHeadlessOtter · 04/10/2006 18:05

Yum i am sure it will be fine green - probably whiten when boiled. Wish i was round at yours for tea mars!

TwigTwoolett · 04/10/2006 18:12

MarsLady · 04/10/2006 18:15

cruci what?????????????? lol

So... what you're saying is that I should cook it up.... with or without the cheese sauce?

And who else has started a cauli thread!

cauliflower cheese is niiice! I'm shocked too. Add a bit of mustard and nutmeg to the cheese sauce for extra flavour. Do you have any brocoli? Stick that in too, cauli on its own is rather blande.
