What do you have with chilli con carne?

I have recently discovered this lovely chilli and since it's going down a storm with the whole family, it's going to be in regular rotation. I've done it three times now and had it with rice, peas and corn, but it all seems a bit mushy to me, even though it tastes nice. I had a bowl of left overs for my lunch the other day with a dollop of sour cream grated cheese and crackers and I liked the bit of crunch. I have found it really hard to get salt free tortilla chips and when I tried baking tortilla wraps cut into chips, it all got a bit singed. So, what interesting ways do you serve chilli?

Not very interesting but we have it over a jacket potato, reminds me of bonfire night :)

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 01/07/2014 20:38

With chips, or crusty bread, but usually with rice

milkysmum · 01/07/2014 20:41

Rice, chips, wraps, jacket potatoes, cous-cous, potatoewedges. Not all together obviously!

AllDirections · 01/07/2014 20:42

We always used to have it with either rice or baked pots and occasionally nachos but just recently I only want to eat it with toasted pitta bread. The DC still prefer it with rice, though DD3 always wants a toasted pitta too.

Rice or crusty bread

MyBootsAreMuddy · 01/07/2014 20:46

We have it with jacket potatoes, rice, tacos, natcho or wraps. We usually have a bit of salad with ours.

Mumof3xox · 01/07/2014 20:47

Rice or wraps sometimes garlic bread or flatbread

SwedishEdith · 01/07/2014 20:48

Usually with wraps and guacamole & sour cream and salad

PestoSurfissimos · 01/07/2014 20:48

Usually with rice and sometimes with a jacket potato.

CocktailQueen · 01/07/2014 20:51

Rice, wraps or in enchilada things from tesco. Ooh, or baked potato too - yum!

runningonwillpower · 01/07/2014 20:55

Baked potato and crunchy salad (with a tasty french dressing on the side).

And garlic bread when we're not worrying about calories.

Nigellas cornbread topping for chilli is lovely. We have that or nachos and rice usually, sometimes I do it as burritos or over potato wedges.
Always with sour cream, salsa, guacamole, and cheese though.

Scarletohello · 01/07/2014 20:59

Jacket pots or rice, sour cream, cheese, Doritos and with a home made salsa - tomatoes, red onion, lime juice, garlic, fresh coriander and jalapeño chilies. Just whizz them up in the blender. Yum!

Ludways · 01/07/2014 20:59

I put wraps in the oven until hard to make tacos, then cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes on top

steppemum · 01/07/2014 21:06

Rice.

But my US friends often have it in a bowl with cornbread on the side. My kids LOVE cornbread.

I think it is nice in a bowl with French stick too.

betold · 01/07/2014 21:11

As I student I used to make leftover chilli into toasties with cheese in the breville toasty maker Grin

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 01/07/2014 22:02

Hmm, toasties sound good! Thanks, some good ideas there. I've never had cornbread, might give that a google.

Old El Paso sell bags of nachos, called nachips, which we have chilli on with some grated cheese as well. Lovely.

flowerpowergirl · 01/07/2014 22:22

Nachos
salad
salsa
Sweetcorn
sour cream
and if i am feeling energetic refried beans.

DC love filling the nachos with different combinations and having an excuse for messy eating!

flowerpowergirl · 01/07/2014 22:23

Tacos not nachos. Doh!

Desertrunner · 01/07/2014 22:32

Taco shells? Put the chilli in with grated cheese on top. Optional guacamole and sour cream. Oh yum
Or in wraps. My kids love chilli and a bit of rice in wraps.
Or over tortilla chips with cheese on top for a couple of mins in the oven to melt the cheese. Oooh.
Or sometimes just chilli in a bowl. On its own. Lovely. Has your recipe got chorizo sausage in it? Delicious if you add sliced chorizo.

Chilli left overs on a homemade pizza pase, again with cheese on and baked in oven. Delicious.

Desertrunner · 01/07/2014 22:33

Can you tell I adore chilli ?

ShoeWhore · 01/07/2014 22:34

We usually have it with rice or baked potato but sometimes crusty bread. Often salad.

Like the taco idea though!

SavoyCabbage · 01/07/2014 22:36

With roti bread.

VeryStressedMum · 01/07/2014 22:37

Usually rice, but sometimes jacket potatoes with grated cheese on.
