Morning folks,

A quick heads-up. Some of you (particularly those of you who put in the hours testing the recipes Grin) may recall that we've been working on a Mumsnet cook book of your favourite, foolproof family recipes for some time now.

Well it's being published by Bloomsbury on Thursday 8th June and you can buy a copy of it over on Amazon.

Thanks again for all your help with the book - it literally (and we mean that literally) wouldn't exist without you. And if you're after a warm glow, check out what no less a kitchen superstar than Yotam Ottolenghi had to say about it:

"Family recipes - tried and tested... and tested... and tested - win hands down in any tasting competition I have ever attended. This book is an ultimate collection of such winners: reliable, useful and, most importantly, completely delicious."

ANOTHER UPDATE: We've added another video of the lovely RebeccaMumsnet demo-ing which we ate and was utterly delish.

UPDATE: We got the lovely RebeccaMumsnet to try her hand at the - see the (rather good) results for yourself...

The Mumsnet family cookbook is now out!

@funnyperson

I think the usernames of those who contributed the original recipes should be included, because even if the recipes were reworked and tested, the inspiration came from the contributors. Mumsnet is nothing without its contributors, the contributors are mumsnet. A recipe book by a corporate person is so much less interesting than a recipe book by a group of real mums. It has made me stop and think. We share ideas and knowledge as well as opinions and experience on the mumsnet threads. When it becomes 'the intellectual property of mumsnet' does that mean that mumsnet is going to assume the right to the business exploitation of its contributor's posts without any acknowledgement? This would seem a bit extreme to me. Also of course it makes for a better book if the contributors get their byline (as long as they agree to be named)

Hi funnyperson,
Completely see where you're coming from and in our other books we've always taken this approach. We did just think this time it would be too hard to attribute recipes that often were combinations of many on the site and sometimes heavily adapted after testing by the books authors so as not to really look too much like the original any more.

If you read the book, though, it's absolutely clear from the foreword on that it's a collaborative effort and the 1000s of recipes posted on Mumsnet over the years are the book's inspiration - the last thing we'd want to do is to deny credit where it's due.

It looks great & love the video, though TBH not sure I'm so keen on the title

& I can vouch for the recipes needing to be tweaked, the ones I tested just didn't work at all & needed to be changed, added a few cheap cheats to make it cheaper & easier too - so if you are not a confident cook, the books probably a better idea as you wont be wasting ingredients, as tried, tested & fixed too :)

Ha! Strictly entre nous there were few, shall we say, raised eyebrows to the title here at MNHQ too. I'm afraid I have to take responsibility as I actually threw it out there (amongst a lot of other ideas) and didn't really expect the publishers to like it but they really did and there was no turning back! We took the view that they are the experts - Bloomsbury really are the doyens of cookbooks. So fingers crossed it doesn't put people off.

Hellooo

Here's a video of RebeccaMumsnet making the fabulous Three-Minute Sponge from Top Bananas! I think it's fair to say that she's quite a serious fan of this recipe Wink.

Optimism · 08/05/2014 22:47

Wordery are selling it the cheapest I can find - and free worldwide delivery.

flapinko · 09/05/2014 10:20

I love the title and the book itself is brilliant, I want to cook pretty much everything in it. Well done Mumsnet!

Pandx · 09/05/2014 11:39

My book arrived yesterday and the recipes I've looked at so far sound great and actually seem really doable for someone who isn't the best of cooks (understatement).

I really needed some inspiration and I'm already excited about trying the Thai curry recipe and the brownies at the weekend. For me to actually be looking forward to cooking is unheard of! I hope they taste as nice as they look.

Mignonette · 09/05/2014 11:45

Rebecca

Bung it all in the food processor and it takes about 30 seconds!

Aliama · 09/05/2014 15:41

I found it in Tesco today for £9. Haven't had a chance to look through it though.

Ladyface · 09/05/2014 15:53

My pre-ordered copy just arrived! Will report back when the jury (dcs) have given their verdict.

BoffinMum · 09/05/2014 16:44

Tell you what, Rebecca is great in that film. We should have her on SuperScrimpers!

BerniesBurneze · 09/05/2014 18:39
Shock

I did not know you had other books!! Are you running a competition to win one of your cookbooks at all MNHQ?

Congrats by the way - it looks fab.

Lilybensmum1 · 10/05/2014 08:29

Recieved my copy yesterday, love it! so many recipes to try can't wait, well done mumsnet you always come to the rescue!

Cantdothisagain · 10/05/2014 08:50

Devils on horseback bread made this morning. Smells divine. Tastes good too - think will try freezing in slices as will be useful to have in. Not sure it needs a boiled egg with it as suggested - good with grilled or roasted cherry tomatoes I reckon. But it's very good and easy!

catsareeasier · 10/05/2014 10:53

So - totally off topic, but just nosey: is RebeccaMumsnet in her own kitchen on YouTube? Or whose little dog is looking plaintively in through the kitchen door of the same kitchen while Anjum Anand makes scrummy tarka dhal??

(about 45 seconds in!).
Gobbolinothewitchscat · 10/05/2014 11:45

I'm laughing at the recipe for strawberry sauce smuggly stating that it's much better than shop bought -without nasty additives etc true dat and then another recipe advocating the use of pots of ready made custard not even the fresh stuff

That said, I do like the look of the cow girl stew.

Will reserve full judgement until I can look at an actual copy in my sweaty paws

BillStickersIsInnocent · 10/05/2014 13:16

Oh god I just made the 3 minute sponge and ate the lot Blush

This sort of immediate gratification should Not Be Allowed.

Wanders off to find willpower

RockinHippy · 10/05/2014 15:55

Inspired posting the 3 minute pud recipe video Grin

I wasn't going to by the book as I cook a lot & generally make my own recipes - BUT 11yr old DD who has a natural talent for cooking & makes better bread that I can ever hope to but is a real lazy moo & it's bloody hard work getting her involved with any cooking at home at all Hmm took no persuading at all to make that pud - so I've ordered her a copy Grin

Mignonette · 10/05/2014 20:23

No matter how lovely they might be, most kitchens are unsuitable for filming. This kitchen is most likely hired out for this purpose because of good light and easy access.

Cantdothisagain · 10/05/2014 20:51

Made the sea bass with tomatoes tonight. Really nice - I wouldn't say it looks as posh as the blurb suggests tbh and personally wouldn't put it in the 'food for guests' category but it tastes good and is an easy, tasty, healthy dinner.

Cantdothisagain · 11/05/2014 09:02

On a roll- fluffy eggs for breakfast... Mmm... Easy and would be great for breakfast for guests. Or actually for dinner with ham under the cheese, maybe some asparagus...

glorious · 11/05/2014 20:12

I made and ate the entire 3 minute sponge pud on the spur of the moment while home alone Blush It's dangerous.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/05/2014 09:32

I'm holding out to get a copy in Tesco for £9. If they can sell it that cheap, why is it so much more expensive everywhere else?

flapinko · 12/05/2014 09:51

I am a terrible baker and made the Everyday Lemon Drizzle Cake yesterday and it was perfectly moist and lemony! Really pleased with myself. Gonna try the Fluffy Eggs next.
