Morning folks,

A quick heads-up. Some of you (particularly those of you who put in the hours testing the recipes Grin) may recall that we've been working on a Mumsnet cook book of your favourite, foolproof family recipes for some time now.

Well it's being published by Bloomsbury on Thursday 8th June and you can buy a copy of it over on Amazon.

Thanks again for all your help with the book - it literally (and we mean that literally) wouldn't exist without you. And if you're after a warm glow, check out what no less a kitchen superstar than Yotam Ottolenghi had to say about it:

"Family recipes - tried and tested... and tested... and tested - win hands down in any tasting competition I have ever attended. This book is an ultimate collection of such winners: reliable, useful and, most importantly, completely delicious."

ANOTHER UPDATE: We've added another video of the lovely RebeccaMumsnet demo-ing which we ate and was utterly delish.

UPDATE: We got the lovely RebeccaMumsnet to try her hand at the - see the (rather good) results for yourself...

The Mumsnet family cookbook is now out!

nibblyboy Of course that's a recipe! Just because it might seem easy/obvious to you doesn't mean it isn't to someone else. I'm a pretty good cook but I don't make desserts very often, if at all, so if I were to consider a dessert I'd have to thumb through my recipe books. Something simple like that might be just what I needed.

spiderlight · 29/04/2014 11:29

Thank you!

Mignonette · 29/04/2014 11:44

RE credits-

Nigella reworks recipes sent to her by readers to the point of their being pretty unrecognisable, sometimes medling them with her own ideas and other recipes yet she always credits the original inspiration (person).

Mignonette · 29/04/2014 11:45

Melding, not medling.

Razzlefrazzle · 29/04/2014 19:52

£13.40 on Amazon now for pre-order Smile

Aboyandabunny · 29/04/2014 20:23

All the recipes in The Times so far look fab (and given me an excuse to buy the paper).
Off to pre order the book.

PennySillin · 29/04/2014 21:22

Saw it in Waterstones today. So nearly bought it!

CatherineHMumsnet · 30/04/2014 08:39

PennySillin - you should have! Although watch out, as there'll also be a few opportunities to win copies over the coming weeks.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 30/04/2014 09:06

Banana's are all the rage ATM with the anti-racism thing going on in football this week.

Perhaps Mumsnet could embrace this somehow using their serendipidously named "Top Banana's!" cookbook ?

CatherineHMumsnet · 30/04/2014 14:58

We've just added a behind-the-scenes video from one of the book's photoshoots if anyone would like to .

WonderWomansSister · 30/04/2014 14:58

Ooooh, I tested a slow-cooker recipe for this an age ago. Gosh, lead-times for a cookbook are loooooonnnggggg. Looking forward to flicking through it when I see it on t'shelves.

PennySillin · 30/04/2014 16:08

Couldn't resist, went back and bought it today!

alcibiades · 30/04/2014 21:24

I've bought this from Amazon. Looking forward to getting it in the post and getting some good ideas.

For quite a long time, it's just been DH and I rattling around in the family home, and we cook separately. But our DD and her DH and their DS will be moving soon to be very near us. It's not been an easy time for them, what with PROM and EMCS and reflux, so it would be good to pamper them with some family meals we can cook here and then whisk around to them.

CatherineHMumsnet · 01/05/2014 16:09

PennySillin - that's what we like to hear! If you like it - PLEASE review it on Amazon too! Think you have to wait until publication date next Thursday to do - but the link is here.

CatherineHMumsnet · 01/05/2014 16:09

alcibiades - love the idea of the book being used to pamper and cosset your daughter's family. That's just what it was made for.

Mignonette · 01/05/2014 16:13

And if you check out your local Mumsnet sites, you can find some local book shops to buy it from too. Smile

Willemdefoeismine · 01/05/2014 19:34

Publication date??????? Pretty please Wink

JulesJules · 02/05/2014 18:58

Came out yesterday Willem !

serin · 02/05/2014 22:52

Oh Mumsnet, I am your biggest fan and have used your site pretty much daily for the last 8 years. But Honestly? I don't like what was serialised in the Times at all.

Homemade chicken nuggets? Hardly innovative.

Top banana's? Not really original either, DS had a Mini Boden T shirt with that on a couple of years back.

Sorry, coming in the wake of Jack Monroe, I had expected something really special.

cozietoesie · 03/05/2014 00:05

You didn't ask me for the famous cozie tomato sauce recipe - people have killed sold themselves to get that! When does the next book go into production? (I'll be expecting a call.)

cozietoesie · 03/05/2014 00:18

Having said which, recipe writing is the very devil. I recall sitting with my grandmother (the finest short pastry cook I ever knew) when I was 15 and asking her how she did it.

How much flour do you use, Grandma?

Some.

How much fat do you need with it?

Enough.

She baked a heck of an apple pie though!

BalloonSlayer · 03/05/2014 19:00

LOVED the money saving one with a recipe calling for two chicken breasts, cherry tomatoes and asparagus. Hmm

ancientbuchanan · 03/05/2014 23:58

Well I tried the cheats tandoori chicken from today's Times this pm and can tell you that it disappeared in twinkling, even though I had to cheat further as I didn't have all the ingredients.

Even Ds said it was not half bad as he went up for seconds.

So thank you.

Now want to see if my recipe made the cut...

TeenyfTroon · 04/05/2014 11:37

Please, please, cozie, do share your perfect tomato sauce recipe!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/05/2014 21:47

I made the 12 hour pulled pork this weekend, and it was delicious - but the dry rub was nuclear pretty fiery. I took some of it off, and used a sweeter, milder BBQ sauce to mix through the meat, and that did quench the fire somewhat - but when it was cooking, ds3 claimed he could taste the chilli in the air - and I only used a teaspoonful.

I would definitely make it again, but maybe wind back the chilli and paprika a bit.
