DebsCee · 28/07/2006 21:41

Did you go 'The Fat Duck' a la Heston? Saw your thread title and had to reply, it's the only place I know that does Snail Porridge - I loved it!

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 28/07/2006 21:41

also had mustard ice cream with red cabbage gazpacho. that was all the right colour

Carmenere · 28/07/2006 21:45

NotQuiteCockney · 28/07/2006 21:45

Oh, I went in January, isn't it lovely?

Now I want to go again.

The snail porridge was delish, wasn't it. Did you have the 7-course thing?

FrannyandZooey · 28/07/2006 21:45

Can you PLEASE have some sensitivity with your thread titles

Some of us are delicate little flowers you know

ComeOVeneer · 28/07/2006 21:46

Isn't it something to do with ham and fennel?

FrannyandZooey · 28/07/2006 21:46

NQC

I have stood next to you

and your sons played with my sons

How could you betray me like this?

NotQuiteCockney · 28/07/2006 21:48

I didn't do it.

It wasn't me.

Someone else did it.

I just had to let you know.

NotQuiteCockney · 28/07/2006 21:48

Hey, you're giving yourself more sons again. Are you pulling a Soupy?

trinityrhino · 28/07/2006 21:48

seriously, what are you taking about?????

DebsCee · 28/07/2006 21:48

explains all

NotQuiteCockney · 28/07/2006 21:49

TR: The Fat Duck is a lovely restaurant in Bray, experimental cooking, like at El Bulli (sp?) in Spain. Really great stuff. Look it up online.

Mercy · 28/07/2006 21:49

Trinity see The Fat Duck . Have a look at the philosophy section!

trinityrhino · 28/07/2006 21:49

so not a snail has been near it...........ok, strange name then but hey the food sounds really good

FrannyandZooey · 28/07/2006 21:50

NQC

I merely omitted an apostrophe

Your sons played with my son's.....

fill in the blank

NotQuiteCockney · 28/07/2006 21:52

No no, snail porridge definately had snails in it. Not ham and fennel.

Don't think Blumenthal uses artificial colourings. I had a beetroot jelly that was orange, and an orange jelly that was beetroot-coloured, but of course he used orange beetroots and blood oranges.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 28/07/2006 21:52

trinity rhino: here . The whole thing actually way exceeded expectations. I expected to enjoy the novelty of it all - wasn't sure if I would actually like the food! But I loved it. And I'm actually quite conservative - but I ate everything and enjoyed most of it. The snail porridge was snails with porridge - not porridge made of snails, iyswim. not my favourite thing. best was an oyster in passion fruit jelly with lavender. and the bacon and egg ice cream which came with french toast and the most amazing caramel and mushroom goo. Possibly one of the most notable things was the best service I have ever had - lovely smiley happy people who clearly enjoyed their jobs and were passionate about the food - not at all obsequious and not one single smidgeon of snobbery.

Goodness, did they really? DS2 will go for a "blank" if he gets the chance, but DS1 is pretty clear on the whole "willies are private" routine.
