Does anyone know if I can get a Scottish steak pie anywhere in London or the South East for Ne'erday? Left it too late to order online I think. Sad
Thanks!

Make your own. A big pot of stew with lots of carrots, turnip and onion and bought flaky pastry on top.
If not, you could try this butcher I think he does a postal delivery.

Scottish steak pie is different to every other steak pie I have ever had, because it has sausages in it (beef sausages, I think). It sounds very odd, and I was a bit taken aback when I first encountered it, but it is delicious!

OP - it is not much use to you, but you can take your own ashet to the butcher in Kilmacolm, and he will fill it for you with his steak pie mix, and put a pastry lid on, so you can bake it at home and kid on it is home made.

They don't all have sausages in them. I prefer them without

You can get both types. Personally I don't like stewed link sausage, horrible flaccid things, but most of my family do have it that way.

Agree, can't stand them meself. Her local butcher also makes beef olives with pork fillet (which is actually delish)

Shesparkles · 23/12/2013 21:24

The steak pie HAS to be cooked as a pie with the pastry on top, so you get the nice soggy bottom to it! None of the bit of stew with a piece of puff pastry on the side!

I've complained when I've ordered steak pie when out for tea and it's feckin stew with puff pastry, not fucking steak pie then is it!

Report
FannyFifer · 23/12/2013 21:29

Would it not be a pork olive instead of a beef one then, my butcher does beef olives & chicken olives, braw steak pies, mince rounds, ace haggis.

We had steak pie for our tea tonight. No sausages, of course!
It was delicious, with loads of creamy mash and lashings of gravy.

Steak pie is so easy that it's a crime to make. Good quality diced braising steak, chopped onions, chopped carrots and optional turnip. Brown in a large pot then add 2 tbsp plain flour. Add water to above the meat and veg mix bring to boil then simmer for a long, long, long time. Perfect results every time. Put in a serving bowl and put uncooked puff pastry lid ontop bake in hot oven until pastry is cooked through..

The only steak pie with sausages I've ever had was from the butchers in Dollar. I nearly spat it out as I had no idea what it was! Every other steak pie I've had from butchers around Fife have just been steak, no sausage.
