Baked bean layer in a cottage pie? Insanity or genius?

I've just noticed the back of the Colmans cottage pie sachet suggests a layer of baked beans between the meat and potato. Is this delicious or rank? I can't quite decide....

RANK RANK RANK

have the beans separately so the sauce doesn't pollute your delicious pie

also, what is a cottage pie sachet?

kelda · 14/05/2013 15:54

Insanity.

try a layer of cauliflower cheese instead. That is delicious.

ouryve · 14/05/2013 15:54

Bloody revolting.

BunnyLebowski · 14/05/2013 15:54

Rank.

But if you're using a sachet you probably like rank food.

thestringcheesemassacre · 14/05/2013 15:55

Awful. Just plain awful.

Monty27 · 14/05/2013 15:56

Sounds good to me :) :)

usualsuspect · 14/05/2013 15:56

Genius,I love baked beans with cottage pie.

IslaValargeone · 14/05/2013 15:57

Insanity? Bloody illegal more like.

usualsuspect · 14/05/2013 15:58

I mix the beans up with the cottage pie on my plate, so might a as well put them in the pie.

HappyHippyChick · 14/05/2013 16:00

I always put beans in cottage or shepherds pie. It is delicious!

NettoSuperstar · 14/05/2013 16:00

No way, the thought gives me the boak.

notso · 14/05/2013 16:02

YY to cauliflower cheese, that is yum.

Beans are OK but I only do it when there is no veg in the house.

MIL puts a tin of tomatoes in hers, I'm not keen.

I went to a friends the other day who put mushrooms in hers, that was a minging surprise.

shumway · 14/05/2013 16:03

Genius.

PollyPlummer · 14/05/2013 16:04

Yes but it would have to be served with bread and butter and a big cup of tea.

FlatsInDagenham · 14/05/2013 16:04

I mix beans into my cottage pie sometimes. It's yum.

But a sachet? Really? Why?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 14/05/2013 16:05

Delicious.

Dolallytats · 14/05/2013 16:06

Eugh!! What is a cottage pie sachet? Surely no-one needs a sachet to make cottage pie?!?

MrsHoarder · 14/05/2013 16:07

Vile.

And sachets are only permitted when camping.

OddSockMonster · 14/05/2013 16:07

Wrong, wrong and still wrong!

cakeandcustard · 14/05/2013 16:09

Genius, it's how my mum used to make it, but she used to mix the beans in with the mince, not as a layer - yum yum!

CremeEggThief · 14/05/2013 16:11

Yuk!

HandMini · 14/05/2013 16:12

This is a cottage pie sachet - I like them. How is it different to crumbling an Oxo cube and some herbs over the meat? Isn't that standard way of making it? www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=250920908

I think consensus is the bean layer is wrong.

usualsuspect · 14/05/2013 16:17

I use sachets, nowt wrong with them.

FlatsInDagenham · 14/05/2013 16:21

How is it different to crumbling an Oxo cube and some herbs over the meat?

Um - so why don't you just crumble an oxo cube and some herbs over the meat then?

alienbanana · 14/05/2013 16:23

Cauliflower cheese is fucking genius... Nom.
