Why do people give rice cakes to their small children??

Is it for chewing practice or wot?
There are bugger all calories or goodness in them.

Not sure why they do but I hope you guys who eat them and give them to your kids reaalise that they really make your breath smell like a pigs arse!!!!

LOl twinkie - espec. the marmite ones! If my mum has peed me off I give ds2 them deliberately before we go to her house as she hates the smell!
Ds1 and ds2 love em - marmite, orange and apple. They both have allergies and these (plus organix gingerbread men and animal biccies) are about the only snacky things they can have. I've been known the snaffle them too.

DH must have been receiving subliminal thoughts from this thread as he has just made a huge bowl of fresh popcorn...should keep the kids quiet for ages

Haven't read this thread but read the first few posts.

DD2 loves the organix apple ones. They are actually quite nice. She's been poorly for a week and they are one of the only things she'd eat.

On smell though.......does anyone else think rice crispies smell of wee?

Angeliz - haven't noticed that sugar puffs smell of wee, but did notice when I used to eat them that my wee smelt foul! Almost immediate effect - like asparagus. Sorry TMI!

when any rice cakes are opened near me I always have to smell ds's bum as I think I can smell poo. anyone else think they smell of baby poo (breastfed poo, maybe)?

I love rice cakes and my kids love them too. My favourite once are without anything added, I don't feel guilty when I eat them or give them to my kids: no sugar, no salt.

they're absolutely foul and stink of mouse piss.

oops, Dinny - I'm sure your DS's poo smells a whole lot better than mouse pee!
