Erm, I have had an internet shopping fail and now have 1kg of wholemeal plain flour and 1kg of wholemeal self-raising which need to be used in the next month. Help!

A bit of a challenge!

I really only use flour for sauces and cakes. I have done pastry in the past but am a bit rusty. Have never made bread; don't have a breadmaker.

What on earth can I do with this flour? Any ideas for things I can freeze?

Shall I just put it on freecycle?! Grin

It is a short date thinking about it - my fault though and I've kind of set myself the challenge now! Thanks for all the suggestions.

First batch of cheese scones in the oven! Used soya milk in them so hoping they'll be edible!

I use a lot of flour in bread, but the easiest way to use a lot of brown wholemeal is Irish Soda Bread - 1lb makes a great loaf. Also freezes well.

I really want to make that fedup, but I won't be able to have buttermilk - any ideas?

google says add lemon juice to soya milk? Might be worth a whirl!

Make some pizza bases and freeze them. Rock cakes. Make pastry and freeze.

Every week I make a version of this simple fruit loaf which involves a quarter pound each plain and wholemeal flour together with whatever combination of apples, bananas, nuts and dried fruit I've got handy. Gets sliced up for post-school snacks! If your flour is kept dry and reasonably air-tight it'll be Ok for longer than a month. Don't panic.
