Ok in defence of a lot of larger women out there sometimes its not the amount but what you eat. I dont eat a lot but i do have a real weakness for fatty foods. When ttc 3 years ago i weighed almost 15 stone lost 3 stone in 6 months just by cutting out most of my fat. Unfortunately im back to where i was 3 years ago but thats not cos i eat more just that i eat fatty foods again eg instaed of salad at lunch sub it for and egg sandwich :( I have started back on the low fat road again as i was easy on myself for a few months cos i gave up smoking, but the hardest thing is the almost no alcohol, its so calorific. Had all the vices me :o

cod · 16/03/2006 13:51

think i used to ahve two large meals in a day rather than a snack for lunch ( normally) then a meal for supper

Being pregnant. Pre DD I was about 8.5 stone and 13 stone before she was born.

It is going away again though (she is 6 months and I am 9.5 stone at the moment).

Did a similar thing with DS - 9 stone before, 13.5 stone during and then managed to lose more seeing as I was 8.5 stone before DD Smile.

i have no idea cod, she lives on her own

her fridge and cupboards are empty

she works in a big office across the road from a massive tesco - she is either going there for her lunch and buying cakes/chocolate/crisps or the office has tons of tins of chocolates etc on the desks

i darent ask her she would be furious

CountessDracula · 16/03/2006 13:52

Yes a lot of it was water of course, I didn't even eat anyting for the first two weeks I was in there and was also on a saline drip

I woke up in bed one morning and sat up and my head sort of tipped over, trundled off to the loo with my drip and screamed when I looked in the mirror as my face had totally puffed up. My fingers were like sausages

My skin was lovely though Grin

cod, she lives alone

she could be having a bottle of vodka and coke or 3 bottles of wine a night, with takeaways, who knows

she says its the "change" (her words)

puff · 16/03/2006 13:57

scary cd

what did it for me was shockingly calorie dense, nutritionally poor "food"

cod · 16/03/2006 13:58

I didn't put on huge amounts of weight in one go...my weight just crept up slowly over about 3 years. I went up a stone and 2 dress sizes. . I have a seriously sweet tooth and would eat a whole chocolate bar intended for the family to share in one go Blush. I gave it up entirely and have dropped to a lower weight and smaller size than I've been since uni.

Prior to this I used to eat large portions of what was basically a healthy diet but was never overweight. I think that my inability to control my appetite was a form of PND after DS#2 was born - it was the only thing that made me feel happier. Terrifying to remember it now...

Also when I went into hosp had gone down from 9 to 6 stone mainly I htink due to dehydration (was incredilby dehydrated as I had had the runs for 6 months Shock)

So a lot fo the weight gain was replacing that water

However steroids also make you SO hungry, you can eat massive meal and then another 5 mins later. I have always been a grazer, never been able to scoff a huge meal, so the sudden ability to do so was quite liberating! You can't just stop taking steriods, have to tail them off, so I was on them for 6 months and ate so much I ended up 12st+.

Lost it all again, had to go back on steroids, put it all on, lost again, etc x4 then finally when got pg with dd was on a low dose for 18 months and I still haven't lost it all :( It gets a bit depressng after a while the constant having to lose weight :( I am back on it now though am size 16 and dying to get back to a 12

ProfYaffle · 16/03/2006 14:03

4pm toast, my nemesis since giving up work!

When I first moved in with dh he was really poor at washing up. I refused to cook if he hadn't washed the pots from the night before. This resulted in loads of pizzas, takeaways and eating out and about a stone and a half on the hips!

We bought a dishwasher, I lost it all on WW, then put it back on again when pg. Losing it again now.

chenin · 16/03/2006 14:05

My weight just crept up and up after having 2 dds (now teens!) but in last year or so have lost 3 stone and feel miles better for it.
My weaknesses were eating too late, drinking too much, unhealthy breakfast and lunch. I just changed those factors a bit and do more exercise and after sheer bloody hard work and determination, have lost it.
Now, I worry about keeping it off. I now weigh same as I did when I was 20 but just keep thinking it is all gonna go back on! I dream I'm going to wake up fat overnight!

cod · 16/03/2006 14:05

yaffel NO toast today
have a glass fo water instead

ProfYaffle · 16/03/2006 14:08

Sounds delish cod! I have now replaced the toast with a Special K bar. again.

puff · 16/03/2006 14:14

It is scary when you lose control of your eating and then you eat more and more because you get unhappier and unhappier (well I did anyway) - in fact I loathed myself.

Am thinking now it was a way of punishing myself over Mum's suicide - had this idea that I must have failed her badly as a daughter for her to want out.

So glad I'm back in control. Now I'm just back to my make up obsession Grin.

Piffle · 16/03/2006 14:15

I put on 2 stone at uni, beer and crap food, spending all day at a desk.
lost it over the summer hold, working 18 hr split shifts at petrol station and riding horses.
When I gained the weight well it was after dd and I just ate porrly, we lived above a takeaway, drunk loads - on WW I lost a stone in 5 weeks. DP lost 2. He has put some of his back on (working away beer etc)
I quit drinking exceot for odd one or two once or twice a week and really sensible eating and have lost another 4kgs since xmas - also been exercising to work out dvds.
And technically I was not overweight at xmas so goes to show how much of a difference exercising and a few tweaks can make...

nailpolish · 16/03/2006 14:17

the biggest change i ever saw in a person was dh's uncle

he met and married dh's aunt when they were both in their 50's, she is very old fashioned and wont let him lift a FINGER in the house, he had full english every single morning, morning coffee with homemade cakes, 2 course fatty lunch (this is scotland mind, very very fatty food), afternoon tea and more homemade cakes, and dinner with 2 or 3 courses. huge servings.

and he didnt even have to push a hoover around or do the dishes or f all

he put on about 4 or 5 stone very quickly.

he then lost it extremely quickly when he had 2 heart attacks and developed type-2 diabetes

now he get none of the above

Mazzystar · 16/03/2006 14:20

red wine, curry, cheese and general state of misery

lost it by going to the gym and cutting out all of the above

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 16/03/2006 14:23

im about 11.7 now.... was 9st 3 years ago. No just into size 14 wedding dress was a small size 12 2 years ago.

ok, so 2 kids in 15 months hasnt helped, but on average i eat....

2 slices of toast for breakfast
cheese on toast/spaghetti on toast/sandwhiches/rolls etc for lunch
mid-afternoon - chocolate
normal healthy dinner
evening - 2 slices of toast

I know i eat too much bread and chocolate and if i was to cut these out (like i have done before) i can lose 1st in 4 weeks.

just have no motivation at the moment

NotQuiteCockney · 16/03/2006 14:24

Oh, I come from quite a heavy family - I used to be a size 18 (now 16), and I'm slimmer than anyone in my family. I'd say there are a bunch of things that cause the obesity, at least in my family.

My mom would serve quite healthy but really gross food. So you'd need to snack, and snacks were always available, and heavily processed.

Also, nobody really got any exercise, for the last few years before her death, mom would find climbing a flight of stairs quite taxing.

Now my sister is quite heavy, and her DP works as a builder. He's reasonably thin, and needs to eat a lot, because of all the physical work. She eats the same sh*t as him, and hence is heavy, even for her.

NotQuiteCockney · 16/03/2006 14:25

Oh, and I weigh about 82 kg now. Pre-children, I was about 85 I think. That's on 5'6", but quite a large frame (big shoulders, lots of muscles, size 9 shoes).
