DS loves to bake (well, he loves to lick the spoon!) and will eat anything if it's called cake (have also discovered he will eat omlette with any filling if I call it a pancake) so need some ideas for savoury muffins to bake with him, which he can take to nursery for lunch etc.

Anything that's easily adaptable, ie a basic recipe that you just add whatever veg to? Trying to cut the sugar in his diet while giving him stuff I know he'll eat if it's called cake!!

There's a nice one from I Can Cook Carrot & Courgette Muffins, DS has enjoyed making and eating these. So much so we bought the book, his first very own cook book.

And you can play about with the added ingredients sunflower seeds have worked well for us, and different dried fruit. Reckon a little grated cheese would work too.

There's an I can cook book?! Amazing, thank you

It's great! DS likes to look up recipes, it's got good photos for each stage of preparation, and as a reluctant reader, he's quite happy to read the ingredients (especially if there's chocolate involved).

I LOVE savoury muffins - I made a batch of 12 recently and did 4 different flavours.
I added cheese to the muffin mix then split the mix into 4 and added:
Pesto
Beetroot
Tomato Puree
leeks softened in butter
I made them with wholemeal flour which somehow makes them nicer.

They were absolutely amazing!

The recipe is really simple too, I think I found it in the recipe bank on Mumsnet - if you search cheese muffins there are a few savoury muffin recipes.

IIRC I used this recipe as a base and omitted the chutney for whatever else I wanted to add. Although I did have a bash with the chutney ones before and they were amazing too!

Yum - I really want to make some now!
