Well, lacking substantial flavour/nutrition/healthiness anyway Grin

It is a creation of the devil and you will go straight to hell for even thinking about using it.

krabbiepatty · 03/03/2006 17:09

Also depends on the packet or jar, some much more evil than pthers...

SorenLorensen · 03/03/2006 17:09

Just noticed moondog's around though - she really does believe my first sentence Wink

expatinscotland · 03/03/2006 17:10

It tastes bland and yucky.

krabbiepatty · 03/03/2006 17:11

Eg pesto in jar is fine and has uses - not same as fresh stuff but perfectly OK

Normsnockers · 03/03/2006 17:12

Or its loaded with salt to achieve any sort of flavour at all.

NotQuiteCockney · 03/03/2006 17:12

I don't mind Seeds of Change organic stir-in pasta sauce.

I think that's the only real jar sauce we ever use. Oh, store-bought chiller-cabinet pesto.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 17:13

Well, lasagne ragu & white sauce.

Packet white/cheese sauce.

Casserole/chilli con carne type packets/mixes.

Did see a pot of bisto granules for white/parsley/cheese sauce in the supermarket and thought they were a bit much but then again, i am truly lacking in knowledge of these things Grin

I like Bertolli pasta sauces, and Patak's curry paste (and I can make very nice pasta and curry from scratch but, you know, sometimes I just can't be @rsed Grin)

LIZS · 03/03/2006 17:14

Will admit to using jars but bnto packets. at least the jar contents look fresh-ish and "real". Same with soups, tins /cartons not dried.

SorenLorensen · 03/03/2006 17:14

I think those ragu and white sauce ones are vile though.

NotQuiteCockney · 03/03/2006 17:16

Oh, yes, I use curry paste, I am that lazy.

White sauce in a jar is a bit scary/gross to me. White sauce isn't that hard to make.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/03/2006 17:16

Thats my problem - i always cook things from scratch but im finding more and more that to cook some things from scratch involves these kind of sauces/stocks and i find them time consuming, and i TOO cant be arsed!

I use jars a lot - lasagne, bolognese, chicken tonight kind of sauces, curry etc.

Not too keen on packets as they can be a bit salty and taste a bit powdery IMHO.

yomellamoHelly · 03/03/2006 17:22

Wouldn't say they're evil because every so often they save my sanity and allow me to make the evening meal dead quick (usually make everything from scratch) and thereby collapse on the sofa with a glass of wine much quicker.
I think Gillian McKeith even says that you only need to follow her rules 80% of the time once you're past the detox so I'm sure the same applies to RL

Piffle · 03/03/2006 17:24

Depends say Covent Garden pasta sauces are really good
But a powdered one
Ugh spawn of the devil
I'm firmly in Moondogs camp on everything but the odd fishfinger Grin

Piffle · 03/03/2006 17:25

Cheese/white sauce only takes 5 mins to make!!!

harrogatemum · 03/03/2006 17:41

only sauces worth eating - Lloyd Grossmans.

harrogatemum · 03/03/2006 17:42

I mean - from a jar. As opposed to the ONLY sauces worth eating. My own tarragon sauce infact is wonderful. Just tell me to shut up now.

CountessDracula · 03/03/2006 17:43

brimfull · 03/03/2006 17:44

harpsichordcarrier · 03/03/2006 17:45

weeeeeeeell not EVIL
but pretty tasteless generally
I sometimes use th packet spices for fajitas but that's it

festiveface · 03/03/2006 17:45

i never make my own sauces. use jars quite alot.Blush what sauces do you all make and how?

krabbiepatty · 03/03/2006 17:46

Surely no one makes their own ketchup?

Piffle · 03/03/2006 17:48
