Do you have food combo's that other people think are weird...

or am I the only freak?!!!
As I am having a lazy day today, dinner was a picnic style pick and mix that ds loves ( a few sarnies, crisps, fruit chopped up, fromage frais & salad cream for dips, crackers etc).
My neighbour knocked to borrow something and told me that my sandwich combo was downright weird!! My whole family have strange combinations that they love and I was wondering if we were the local frootloops or if any one else likes strange things.

jam & mayo sarnies, preferably seedless raspberry...mmmm

Radley · 29/01/2006 19:23

Oh, also like red grape and philadelphia, that is one of my faves,.

bobbybobbobbingalong · 29/01/2006 19:30

Ds asked for cornflake sandwiches (turns out Mr Silly eats them). I had to make rice crispie sanwiches instead. I don't think he will ask for them again.

Littlefish · 29/01/2006 19:33

My dd has porridge with mushrooms every morning.

kleggie · 29/01/2006 19:34

Digestive biscuits and cheese
Rice pudding and broken up ginger biscuits
Rice pudding and strawberry jam
Tuna and red grape sandwiches

Ooh yummy, hungry now...

CatBert · 29/01/2006 19:35

Apple pie and wensleydale cheese. Mmmmmmmm Not altogether odd, but some people think so.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 29/01/2006 19:36

Lime pickle and bacon sandwiches. YUM

cull · 29/01/2006 20:35

gerkins, cheese and mustard sandwiches
mmmmm

chicagomum · 29/01/2006 20:37

apple spread with marmite, and fishfinger sandwiches with tomatoe ketchup.

Aero · 29/01/2006 20:44

bovril on toast no matter what else you put on the toast - eg, bovril under cheese, tomatoes, eggs, bananas, cucumber etc etc

same with crackers - bovril under the cheese, then topped with either a pickled onion or branston pickle. mmmmmmmmmmmm

When I was a nanny, one of the girls I looked after had to make a favourite sandwich for a friend / family member in Food Tech. She made my favourite which was peanut butter and banana on granary bread, which the other children thought so weird, that she came home on the verge of tears from the teasing

Bloody nice sandwich though

mszebra · 29/01/2006 20:59

americans often have peanut butter + banana together, can't imagine anyone thinking that's peculiar.

I think I win, though. I've managed marmite+marmalade+tomato puree+mustard... yes, all together.
My 6yo comes up with similarly bizarre combos that he loves.

Mercy · 29/01/2006 21:03

Littlefish, do you mean the mushrooms are in the porridge?

tillykins · 29/01/2006 21:04

I make sandwiches out of anything I am eating - too lazy to eat normally I suppose! Pizza sandwiches have raised eyebrows before now!

MummyJules · 29/01/2006 21:19

You're sandwich combinations and definately not weird! I love having pate with redcurrant jelly and in my student days used to live on sandwiches with peanut butter and salad cream!

MummyJules · 29/01/2006 21:20

oo and I also love toasted sandwiches with bolognaise mixture - I have vowed to my friends that if I ever run a cafe they will be on the menu!

spursmum · 29/01/2006 21:22

Ive just remembered one of my dads weird combo's...banana toasted sandwiches.

Normal until you see him mix hot curry powder in with the mashed bananas before going in the toasty thing!!!

tillykins · 29/01/2006 21:29

oooh, toasted banana, never had that, it sounds yummy

NannyL · 29/01/2006 21:48

Houmous marmite and english mustart sandwiches are the YUMMIEST thing ever!

Stylish · 30/01/2006 12:28

I mentioned this thread to my dad in passing last night and he mentioned his current favourite sandwichs - Spam and beetroot in a toasty!

So it looks like my weirdness is genetic

lucy5 · 30/01/2006 12:33

i like phily and marmite on crumpets. When I was preggers I liked mature cheddar on chocolate digestives. If im feeling devilish I still eat it now

munz · 30/01/2006 12:37

I do the cheese/picked onions - yummy!
weetabix/toast (literally dip the toast in the wetabix!) yummy!
chicken/salad cream
icecream, apple pie (warmed) choc sauce and a crushed digestive with swiss roll if avaliable - yummy!
ham with ready salted crisps

munz · 30/01/2006 12:37

DH likes chilli in a toasty.
