I have an exercise class at 6 and can never think of what to eat beforehand for energy.

I hate fruit. Don't say banana...

Ooh, not averse to tinned fruit, no! Another great idea! I'm glad I started this thread now, even though it's made me hungrier than ever. Loads of inspiration.

I love the dole mandarin segments in orange jelly. Tiny
Little handy tubs

StuckUpTheFezziwigTree · 13/02/2012 16:05

What have you decided on?

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 13/02/2012 16:05

Hummus. Yum.

startail · 13/02/2012 16:05

Pumkin seed Rivita and pate would be mine. Yes I know pate isn't healthy, but I don't like low fat cheese.
It is my nibble of choice if DDs activities mean tea being very late. Otherwise I reach for the crisps and still feel hungry.

Also OP you are right bananas stink.

Glittertwins · 13/02/2012 16:06

Walnuts/brazil nuts/pumpkin or sunflower seeds

startail · 13/02/2012 16:06

Hummus is good too!

salamanda · 13/02/2012 16:07

I haven't decided yet and am feeling increasingly faint! Flapjack is going to be easiest and a latte.

salamanda · 13/02/2012 16:07

startail ryvita are great.

But even if I do go for flapjack and coffee, all your suggestions haven't been in vain and I will implement them from tomorrow onwards ;)

I like oatcakes with peanut butter and a few grapes on the side. Got that from DS it's one of his fav snacks.

I also like muffin pizza - whole meal muffin cut in half, dab of tomato purée, some tuna or cheese on top, shove under grill for a few mins, yum.

Greek yoghurt with honey and nuts is surprisingly filling.

Weetabix do a cereal bar now, it's a bit healthier than many sugary alternative ones.

Bugger, am really peckish now.... Grin

Glittertwins · 13/02/2012 16:12

So am I!

FutureNannyOgg · 13/02/2012 16:12

graze.com are awesome.

euphrosyne · 13/02/2012 16:35

A small bag of unsalted almonds.

salamanda · 13/02/2012 16:38

Soooo...I may have got myself some STICKY TOFFEE cake. But how was I to resist that? I didn't even know such a thing existed, so I had to try it, right? I have gone for the healthier option of tea rather than latte though

Hmm, cake pretty sickly. Not sure I'll be able to move in class later. Ryvita/oatcakes/cottage cheese would have been better. Let that be a lesson to me!

I know, birds, most people have been very helpful though. I've never tried making cereal bars, may give it a go!

Exercising when you're hungry does seem like a recipe for headaches and fainting.

OP posts:
Glittertwins · 13/02/2012 17:25

Hope you don't get a repeat of the cake in class!!

OneLittleBabyGirl · 13/02/2012 17:32

I'm naturally quite slim but I like doing exercise to keep fit. (5'3 size 6/8). I don't want to lose any weight so I know where you are coming from OP. I found no snacks work. I am starving by 6 and no way I can do 1.5hours of exercise. What I do instead is pack a very very large lunch. More food than I can eat at lunch. Say I pack two sandwiches and eat the second at 3.30 - 4. That works much better than having fruit or rice cakes kind of snacks.

Also I prefer to pack cooked lunches as they are more filling. In that case I have some cheese, yoghurt or nuts at mid afternoon.

OliviaMumsnet · 13/02/2012 17:39

Almonds

Apologies for my sneaky use of aibu for a food thread. But it was an emergency Grin

The cake saw me through, but will have a big lunch then some oatcakes/ryvita/cottage cheese as a snack next time. Maybe even some carrots or fruit too. I do burn off all my calories but I think they need to be healthier ones from now on!

OneLittle I know what you mean, I am usually starving and grouchy by the time I get home from work. Fast metabolism or something.

Olivia MN, that's naughty .... Remember, you must finish them even if you don't like them. Esp if you are a 10 year old guest. Wink

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 13/02/2012 23:26
