I have an exercise class at 6 and can never think of what to eat beforehand for energy.

I hate fruit. Don't say banana...

Plain popcorn.

Hard boiled egg, sliced with a salad.

Or just water; do you really need that much energy for an hour's exercise?

Gumby · 13/02/2012 15:37

Slice of maltloaf

FedUpOfTheBunfightsSeaCow · 13/02/2012 15:37

Personally I wouldn't eat - have you had your lunch? If so there's no need.

SuchProspects · 13/02/2012 15:38

Bananas are good, slow release energy and lots of potassium to help your muscles recover.

salamanda · 13/02/2012 15:38

It's an hour and a halfs exercise...and I'm hungry! Thank you for the suggestions. I only have access to tempting cafes or tesco, no facility to make an egg. Otherwise that would be great - I will bring one to work next week :)

Raw carrot and cucumber and lettuce chopped up and kept in fridge.
Grab a handful as and when required and eat with asda extra special balsamic and red pepper dressing. Yum!!!

Ice cubes Grin

Snack a jacks?

joanofarchitrave · 13/02/2012 15:39

But being hungry is normal. It goes away again if you wait. Exercise usually kills it off tbh.

salamanda · 13/02/2012 15:39

Gah, you're right, I should have just eaten a big lunch. I only had a sandwich at my desk.

SuchProspects bananas are horrible!

Shock
salamanda · 13/02/2012 15:41

joan, thank you, I know being hungry is normal and I know when I need food. I am not trying to lose weight. I was just wondering what other people eat as healthy snacks - I don't usually snack, unless I've not had enough lunch or I have a very heavy exercise class to go to.

Kayano I like your idea! I need to be more organised with taking food to work.

Flapjack? Small portion of porridge? Small portion of pasta?

verytellytubby · 13/02/2012 15:46

2 oatcakes

Carrots and cottage cheese

salamanda · 13/02/2012 15:46

Flapjack is a good idea... Too much sugar to be healthy exactly, but surely better than chocolate as it does have fruit, oats etc. Thanks StuckUpTheFezziwigTree

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 13/02/2012 15:47

Mikadosare only 10 cals per stick

salamanda · 13/02/2012 15:48

mmm...cottage cheese, carrots and oatcakes, that sounds doable!

Tillyscoutsmum · 13/02/2012 15:49

this is actually quite nice Not quite as nice as the butter and sugar laden versions but it is more than edible.

I also like Alpen Coconut & Milk choc cereal bars. About 125 cals, very tasty and good for slow release energy

somebloke123 · 13/02/2012 15:51

I think oatcakes are quite healthy and low in calories. Possibly with some relatively low calorie chesse such as cottage cheese, fromage frais or feta.

Bramshott · 13/02/2012 15:52

Water biscuits with cottage cheese and a dab of english mustard - yum! I used to snack on that loads when I worked in a office, and I wish I had some right now!

salamanda · 13/02/2012 15:53

Thanks Apocalypse but I'm going to need more than 10 cals to get me through this class! This is the problem - unless you prepare your own snacks at home, the only ones available to buy and eat quickly are either junk food or 'low fat/ low cal' things designed to stop you from eating the junk food. There should be more pre-prepared snacks on sale that are healthy and also give energy or I should just be less lazy and bring food to work.

salamanda · 13/02/2012 15:54

Bramshott, another great idea, thanks :)

If your tesco had a deli/salad bar they do hard boiled eggs, so a small salad and an egg :-)

salamanda · 13/02/2012 15:59

Good thought, Bill but it's one of those shite mini tescos.

belgo · 13/02/2012 15:59

Nuts. ANy sort, but without salt or chocolate!

FedUpOfTheBunfightsSeaCow · 13/02/2012 16:00

Are you averse to tinned fruit? In juice? What about a small bottle of pure juice (not juice drink).

I do love an oatcake.
