Hot drinks for children?

babysbreath · 04/02/2012 18:50

My dc is 4.5 years old, and has never had a hot drink - what do you give your children? Also, with this cold weather upon us, i do feel that I should be dishing up something a little warmer.

FessaEst · 04/02/2012 18:59

Dd1 loves a babyccino-type thing - warm, frothy milk.

Blu · 04/02/2012 19:02

Hot Ribena.

Asinine · 04/02/2012 19:02

Mine all like tea, hot choc, hot milk.

We used to get hot toddy (whisky) for a cold at night, it stop all coughs, but obv not allowed nowadays.

parttimedomesticgoddess · 04/02/2012 19:05

Hot chocolate here. I've done them both 'real' hot chocolate before (milk and drinking chocolate), but they both prefer the Options instant type. I just add more cold milk to make it the right temp when I make it. If they have it in the evening, they are usually allowed 3 mini marshmallows on it too Grin

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 04/02/2012 19:07

Hot chocolate/ovaltine/horlicks - with milk or 50/50 hot water or the instants
Hot ribenna
Hot lemon

But on the whole most children aren't that bothered.

My DH likes half apple juice half hot water, sometimes with a spoon of honey. Sure kids will like too!

BornToFolk · 04/02/2012 19:10

DS likes a warm squash, warm milk/chocolate or a hot lemon and honey when he's got a cold.

choppychopster · 04/02/2012 19:11

5yo DD is currently drinking a mug of hot apple juice with a splash of water. She also likes hot blackcurrant, milk with a bit of honey and hot choc. She does tend to ask for warm drinks when the weather is cold.

Warm milk or hot choc for a treat. My mum used to give us hot Ribena for a cold and my DSs sometimes have their fruit juice diluted half and half with water from the kettle.

wheredidiputit · 04/02/2012 19:55

Warm/hot blackcurrent, lemon & Lime and hot chocolate for all (dd1 & 2 & DS).

DS has been known to drink any warm tea left in my cup.

2gorgeousboys · 04/02/2012 19:58

Hot chocolate, warm milk, ribena or apple juice are all popular here.v

workshy · 04/02/2012 20:00

my two like hot blackcurrant

make it with water from the kettle then add enough cold water to make it the right temperature for their age

VickityBoo · 04/02/2012 20:03

Oh my dd has loved tea since forever! She's 3 now and until recently just had it black and weak, usually cold/slightly warm. Now she likes it with a little milk. Also we love hot orange squash in this house. Grin

BiltongandBoerewors · 04/02/2012 20:05

Hot ribena
hot spiced apple juice
Warm milk with honey and cinnamon

fuzzypeach1750 · 04/02/2012 20:05

Oh my lot love tea, hot choc, warm milk and warm blackcurrant squash.

We had lovely hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows when we came in from playing in the snow earlier Smile

Milky tea, hot chocolate, hot ribena, soup - they'll take whatever you give them little dustbins they are by no means fussy! :o

shrinkingnora · 04/02/2012 20:13

Why is decaf tea not healthy for children? If you are talking about iron absorption we don't give it to them with meals. Redbush has tannin in too so has the same effect although it has half the amount.

TheAvocadoOfWisdom · 04/02/2012 20:21

DS1 (6) likes hot ribena, hot chocolate, coffee.

Nagoo · 04/02/2012 20:22

I love hot ribena :)

iklboo · 04/02/2012 20:25

Hot chocolate
Warm milk
Hot vimto
Occasionally, weak tea
