Hot drinks for children?

My dc is 4.5 years old, and has never had a hot drink - what do you give your children? Also, with this cold weather upon us, i do feel that I should be dishing up something a little warmer.

Mine all liked a cup of tea or hot chocolate

littleducks · 05/02/2012 14:28

Mine like hot apple juice, that's good in a flask as hot milk isn't recommended. Or babycinios/ hot choc

Birds - How do I know which brand is solvent extracted? Very interesting as had never thought about it much before. Knew it had a little bit of caffeine in but they eat chocolate....
The info from the redbush tea company is that it has less than half the tannin so I assumed 49%

Ok, just found that clipper organic decaf seems to be good. Will switch to that.

dd2 likes mint tea
dd1 stick strictly to hot chocolate. Jamie's epic hot chocolate is a big hit.

Warm Ribena/Vimto, milk or hot chocolate here.

DH loves Jamie's Epic Hot chocolate too and they finished the last jar I made off today after playing in the snow.

DH and I don't drink tea so we've never tried it on the children

Tetley's T4Kids (Tescos £1 for 20 bags in the tea aisle).

Its a Redbush and Honeybush blend with vanilla.

Serve strong with lots of milk - mine love it! No sugar or anything nasty.

Hot milk each night.
Hot chocolate as a special treat
Hot water with lemon and honey for a stuffy cold (ie hot toddy without my expensive whisky in it!)

Also Heinz cream of tomato soup, but that has to be just above lukewarm...

Mumof1plustwins · 05/02/2012 20:00

Never tried hot ribena! Wonder if DD will like that?
We usually give her Nesquik hot chocolate milk and she likes milky tea, oh and when we go on holiday they give kids a type of milky coffee!

shrinkingnora · 05/02/2012 20:24

birds - it sounds horrible. strengthening my resolve to eat clean. Which I won't manage while jaffa cakes are on this earth....

Beanbagz · 06/02/2012 18:03

My kids don't generally have hot drinks with the exception of hot chocolate when we're on holiday and it's really cold. In fact neither of them would drink warmed milk when they were babies - odd i know.

However we do have some Bottle Green mixed berry cordial which is yummy warm!

"usually allowed 3 mini marshmallows on it too "

3 mini ones? I would have mutinying I tried that!

startail · 06/02/2012 18:18

Hot chocolate in all forms for DD1 nag options white one for DD2.
Hot real sugary Ribenna.
This is the best thing for coughs going.
DD1 has drunk tea since she was about 10 and very occasionally milky coffee.
Lol at the idea of decaf tea, DH let DD2 have Coke as a toddler and unfortunately she is far too fond of it.Blush
