when nigella says keep the coke cooking liquid when you roast the ham, what do you keep it for, it doesn't say on the channel 4 website version of the recipie....

you use it for her black bean south beach soup according to nigella bites!

I'm making her 24 hour pork shoulder

I have bought cranberry sauce. Can I still post? Will I be henceforth ostracised by the MN community?

You make soup with the cooking liquor, soph. Do you want the recipe? I kept it then went off the idea and chucked it.

Heathcliffscathy · 24/12/2005 11:23

oooo no coke soup [grimace]

Mine's on too

There is a worrying looking black scum on the top - do you think I should skim it off???

it is fantastic. and it was so easy to make....the glazing bit was a bit messy, but i always thought making a ham was loads of hassle....was none!

I've had a taste of mine and it is wonderful! I must admit to being a bit skepical but it is indeed very nice

spacedonkey · 24/12/2005 22:07

my nigella pork looks incredible. Huge expanse of charred-edged crackling! Must try the coke ham next time ...

Heathcliffscathy · 25/12/2005 00:08

Merry Christmas to you too Sophable and all the other coke heads on this thread

MrsSpoon · 25/12/2005 16:28

I made ham and coke yesterday and for the first time thought the remaining stock looked nice, tried some and it was delicious so have frozen it to give the soup a try.

Yum, hope you enjoy it, we enjoyed ours but there were no leftovers this time! >note to self, get a bigger ham next time

that's the recipe and only recipe we do for ham, since about 3 years ago. We don't bother with anything other than a bottle of a Coca Cola and ham for about 2 1/2 hours, it is very tender and sweet and only lasts max 2 days(with leftovers). Didn't know you could use the coke for anything else after cooking actually.

Lucycat · 02/01/2006 16:03

Just bought a reduced price ham in Somerfield - can I do Nigella's recipe in the slow cooker? (new toy can't you tell )

Lucycat · 02/01/2006 19:17

Take that as a no then!

SKYLERtnightholynight · 02/01/2006 19:22

Hello
Stupid question but did you buy gammon or ham? Can't see why you couldn't do the gammon in coke in the slow cooker. I did this over Christmas and it is yummy.

SKYLERtnightholynight · 02/01/2006 19:23

Sorry, not in a slow cooker though.....

Lucycat · 02/01/2006 19:25

It was gammon, I got a little confused as the instructions that came with the slow cooker told me to only put hot liquids in it, and I didn't fancy heating the coke up in a pan!
