spag bol - boring but always popular!

serenity · 02/11/2005 18:50

Tonight we had jacket potatoes with non chilli chilli (in other words mince with kidney beans ) with garlic bread as Ds2 doesn't eat potatoes.

cuddlymum · 02/11/2005 19:01

Bolognaise sauce, farfella pasta and freshly grated parmesan. As you say JoPG boring but it's always clean plates!

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 02/11/2005 19:02

MT - ihad poached eggs on toast for lunch today!

cuddlymum · 02/11/2005 19:08

Poached eggs are nice love it when the yolk runs but can never manage to do them right myself...! Always end up with a big swirl of egg white in the pan!

honeycombe · 02/11/2005 19:21

Leftovers (can't bear to chuck anything away)
Beef and veg noodles for all! Using up leftover roast beef, cabbage carrots and adding a bit of chinese 5 spice and soy sauce- hey presto!

philippat · 02/11/2005 19:32

sweet potato and cashew nut curry and basmati rice followed by vanilla ice cream (made at local agricultural college and thus both lovely and dirt cheap) with a chopped up celebration choc .

Dd only drank her milkshake. No idea what she lives on, those apples they have at school break must be mighty high in calories.

lapsedrunner · 02/11/2005 19:37

ds - rice & fish fingers.
us - homemade celariac soup and (shop bought) rosemary ciabatta.

mrsdarcy · 02/11/2005 19:37

Ooh, the sweet potato and cashew curry sounds nice. How do you make it?

We had tortilla wraps with refried beans, grated cheese, tomatoes, avodado & creme fraiche.

philippat · 02/11/2005 19:45

mrsdarcy - well with rather a lot of cheating...

fry half an onion in a little oil while peeling and chopping 2 sweet potatoes - about half inch cubes. Fling in the sweet pots and a handful of unsalted cashew nuts, add a generous tablespoon of curry paste (not sauce, I use tikka masala but you could go weaker or stronger) and a tin of coconut cream (or half a block and some regular milk). Lively simmer for 10 mins until sauce reduced down a bit.
Feeds 4 small appetites or 3 larger ones. You can also add regular potato and/or butternut squash if you have some you want to get rid of (but the regular potato needs a bit of pre-boiling first).

Roast it with cumin and olive oil, cut it into chunks and serve with pasta, crispy pancetta and fresh sage.

Frizbe · 04/11/2005 19:40

chicken saag n rice

Gobbledigook · 04/11/2005 19:42

Kids - picnic tea (grapes, cheese, banana, apple, muffin, crisps, choccie treat)

Us - 'meaty pasta' (sauce is mince, celery, carrot, onion, bacon, chopped tomatoes, red wine, Italian herbs - mixed with penne pasta. Bottom layer in dish then cover with cheddar, add another layer then finish with parmesan and bake in the oven). YUM! Should be just about ready!

philippat · 04/11/2005 19:46

salmon & watercress fishcakes (flipper dippers for dd I'm afraid), chips and sweetcorn. And am just enjoying my own hot chocolate mousse
