Can you buy MACARONI?

I am not asking much, I think. I do not seem able to buy macaroni anywhere now. First the little quick cook macaroni I grew up with disappeared off the shelves of Sainsburys and now all macaroni seems to have disappeared from any supermarket. I don't want all those fancy pastas. Just macaroni. Anyone else buy it and if so, where from?

Macaroni cheese is ds2's favourite meal. At the moment, I am using any other shape pasta I can get but I just want plain old, boring macaroni thank you, not all those fancy pastas. I haven't seen it in ages and I have tried several Tescos and a huge Asda. No Sainsburys near me now, but up to last February I was near a Sainsburys and they didn't have it for years.

It's in Tesco's near me, and Morrison's. I live in the Midlands where there is less call for fancy-schmancy poncey pasta with organic fairy lights attached though. If you are in the SE you might ben out of luck.

Lonelymum · 30/10/2005 16:41

Was in the SE, now in the SW. It is really annoying me.

Oooh you're so deliciously retro lm....{wink}

Lonelymum · 30/10/2005 16:43

If I don't get satisfaction from one supermarket soon, I shall be forced to buy those bigger cousins of macaroni and cut them all up by hand!

lol at thought of macaroni's large extended family....

Enid · 30/10/2005 17:38

! I agree. My waitrose has stopped stocking it and they told me to use penne instead

I have seen it in my Tescos but very rarely.

zippitippitoes · 30/10/2005 17:42

It must be a class thing then that's why it's not availabe in the South East like tripe and pork scratchings

Enid · 30/10/2005 17:42

i dont live in the South East

starshaker · 30/10/2005 18:05

you get it pretty much everywhere here

LilacBump · 30/10/2005 18:06

omg! i have just been cursing tesco as they didn't have macaroni and they did a week ago. DP joked that there must be a national macaroni shortage! macaroni and cheese is DD's favourite meal atm.

Kaz33 · 30/10/2005 18:14

You'll be jealous - we have two enormous packets in the larder. Our sainsburys sell it.

bakedpotatooooowoooh · 30/10/2005 18:19

Trusty old Co-Op, bags of it in there

Lonelymum · 30/10/2005 18:57

I have a Somerfield still to try and if I can't get it there, I am thinking of setting up an action group to protest about it. Perhaps I could start with a petition signed by fellow Mners!

Enid · 30/10/2005 19:04

ooh yes I think my local Scummerfield does still do it

NannyL · 30/10/2005 19:50

i regularly buy it from tesco / waitrose!

TinyGang · 30/10/2005 20:01

You're right LM, I've had trouble getting plain old macaroni too.

GeorginaA · 30/10/2005 20:06

"DP joked that there must be a national macaroni shortage!"

He may not be far wrong. It's amazing what you get shortages of if one factory's production goes tits up. (I used to work in Demand Management for a certain well known food company who's name shall not be mentioned and you'd be amazed at what went out of stock for weeks at a time due to production problems).

littlerach · 30/10/2005 20:08

Tesco here has it, we bought some just a couple of weeks ago.

And the Co-Op.

Maybe we have the whole supply right here.

I will pass it on to you all for a small fee!
