Ocado suddenly gone right downhill?

FattyArbuckel · 08/03/2011 19:28

My last few orders with Ocado have been full of damaged stuff and items that have gone off well before date.

Before the last few weeks I have been really happy with my deliveries - has anyone else had lots of problems recently?

I am fed up because I have just paid for a year's delivery up front so i feel a bit tied in now.

I think it started going downhill when the East Europeans went home. Now its all British people and, with all due respect, I don't think the brits have quite the same work ethic. Bring back those really nice Polish blokes!

TeamLemon · 08/03/2011 19:32

My last but one delivery had a crushed carton of eggs. Everything in the bag (3 yoghurts, two tubs of cottage cheese, a kilo of carrots and another box of eggs) was covered in raw egg.

But customer services are very good and they refunded everything in the bag and gave me a £5 refund on my subscription.

The Ocado "own brand" meat is good, but the bananas are awful.

BlooCowWonders · 08/03/2011 19:35

Agree. Last few deliveries have all had somthing broken/ leaking. But also agree that customer service is spot on and refunds always prompt.

TeamLemon · 08/03/2011 19:37

I normally have male delivery drivers, but the one time I had a lady driver she rooted through the bags to find the eggs and checked each one individually to check they weren't cracked!

Hulababy · 08/03/2011 19:37

I have been with Ocado for two years now - just got my free fizz :) Only problem I have had was last week when my bread products had very short dates. Normally not the case.

My deliveries are still on time with polite courteous drivers. I still don't have substitutes. And my food is good quality and not damaged.

TeamLemon · 08/03/2011 19:38

Oh yes! Always on time, or early. And they always phone ahead.

Pennies · 08/03/2011 19:41

Never had any free fizz and their new bags are utterly rubbish coz the handles break.

GlynisIsFixed · 08/03/2011 19:47

I was singing the praises of Ocado, have given the introductory offer code out on here, recommended them to friends but my last delivery was atrocious!

The driver apologised that some luxury goods hadn't been boxed, and the bread was squashed. I said it didn't matter, he was very sorry and I believed him.

BUT............

A milk container had a puncture hole in the bottom, it was half empty in the bottom of a bag. The toothpaste boxes had burst through the 2kg bag of sugar and flour, the raw meat was in the same bag as cooked meat.

I was not happy, rang customer service who offered me a refund for the damaged goods and wouldn't budge on anything else. Apparently their packaging on meat is good enough to prevent cross contamination so that isn't an issue to them Shock

I cancelled my delivery pass, they didn't question this at all, despite the fact I was meant to be signed up for 10 further months.

domesticslattern · 08/03/2011 19:57

Hmmm I haven't had any problems at all recently.
Though the handles on the bags do break straight away.

AnnoyingOrange · 08/03/2011 19:59

In recent weeks we have had a broken egg, a leaking pack of pork and a couple of other things I can't recall for the moment.

My dh always phone up and complains, but I was beginning to think they might think we were trying it on as we seem to call up every week.

So it's interesting to hear of other problems, but Sad too

RenniesFromHeaven · 08/03/2011 20:03

I concur - they have gone very obsessed with their terms and conditions to the exclusion of common sense. One example - they delivered six different packs of meat to me, all running out within 3 days. But that's okay, cos it's within the limits they think are ok... No refunds, a couple of rather Cut and Paste emails from customer services.

No more custom from the Rennies household (despite, as has been noted, lovely website, great delivery drivers etc etc).

Rafi · 08/03/2011 20:06

They're late to us fairly often but they do always phone first. Haven't noticed any difference in quality or packing.

One of the best things about Ocado is the texts, if there's a substitute I don't want it's very useful to have prior warning so I can find and return it straight off - or do the others do that too?

tribpot · 08/03/2011 20:16

We had a whole patch where frozen food was very problematic. Either we'd get someone else's entirely, or none at all, despite it not being substituted or unavailable.

Always refunded but not what I expect.

Recently we've had a rash of last-minute subtitutions, where things have allegedly been available when ordering at short notice, but not turned up in the order.

Apart from the other supermarkets, Ocado now face more competition from Waitrose, they need to up their game if anything Confused

And yes, I do like the texts. Down to "your order will be delivered by Kevin in the Tomato Van. Kevin is an Aires who enjoys gardening and fine wines" (Okay maybe it doesn't actually say the last bit).

WideWebWitch · 08/03/2011 20:24

No, mine is still providing a fab service

saltyseadog · 08/03/2011 20:28

I still love Ocado. We recently had a delivery which included bleach, which unfortunately was open and spilt onto a pair of trousers. Ocado coughed up for a new pairs of trousers no quibbling.

Pancakeflipper · 08/03/2011 20:30

I have stopped using them after only 2 attempts. The potatoes were oozing liquid and stunk. Had short sell by dates on the yoghurts, milk, cheese and cream.

TheSkiingGardener · 08/03/2011 21:32

I used them twice and now don't bother. The delivery drivers sort of grunted, dumped stuff and left, the Ocado own brand stuff was poor quality and the delivery charges are high.

Waitrose Deliver all the way now. They are redoing their website so hopefully it will be better which is the only thing that let's them down.

CatIsSleepy · 08/03/2011 21:35

no problems here.
not late, no short sell-by dates, no leaks, all good.
i love them Grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/03/2011 21:40

I've cancelled my subscription and started using Waitrose Deliver instead - sooo much better.!

I was getting loads of squashed and broken items, having to request refunds nearly every week.
Plus loads of substitutions - and it was always a Waitrose item that had been replaced with an Ocado own brand item. It seemed to me a sly way of trying to get me to convert to their own brand products.
I found all the Ocado own brand items poor quality, and no details were available on things like welfare standards of meat etc - except to say that they met EU regulations which are crap.

I am spending the same money directly with Waitrose, and getting more for my money and much better quality.

amidaiwish · 08/03/2011 21:50

i haven't had any issues recently.

if something isn't up to what i expect i just go online and tick "refund please"! no quibbles.

belledechocchipcookie · 08/03/2011 21:54

I've not used them for a month (trying to save money), the last delivery was a bit of a mess though, some bags with only a couple of items inside them, one bag with a whole chicken and heavy items on the top of a plastic tub of soft fruit Hmm the fruit had to be thrown away as the top had come off, they had all spilled and turned into mush at the bottom of the bag.

TeaOneSugar · 08/03/2011 21:56

No problems here, deliveries are always on time, they phone me if they think they might be late, or if they are running ahead and might be early.

Very occassional substitutions but not often and none of the bizarre subs I've had with other companies.

I've had the odd cracked egg, not recently though, usually 5 eggs out of the 6 are OK anyway.

The drivers are always lovely.

Heathcliffscathy · 08/03/2011 22:00

yup. having this here. thought it was just me.

misspiggy · 08/03/2011 22:01

I'm getting less and less impressed with Ocado unfortunately and I used to love them. Their fruit is never that great, bread and rolls with just a couple of days code and this week I've just had to bin some mince which still had 2 days on it and I've given up on their organic milk altogether.

The drivers are usually very good, polite and helpful but often have to apologise for the crappy standard of packing. Think I may have a look at Waitrose Deliver.Sad

NotaMopsa · 08/03/2011 22:01

their packing is RUBBISH i agree
raw meat in with cooked - a child could do better but the no quibble online refund bit is a joy
I have a pass ( cheapy one at that) and although definitely not what they WERE - they are so far superior to sainsbury who i used to use that i am still pleased
we could maybe email this to them....
