Sorry its a bit random !

I love chorizo and we eat it quite often but peeling it is a real pain in the arse. Its probably one of my most hated prep jobs

Does anyone have any tips to make it easier/quicker ?

The papery covering is edible.

candleshoe · 07/03/2011 21:40

Waitrose peel it for you. Grin I peels quite easily, I think. Stick the knife up it and then peel away?

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/03/2011 21:41

said - so you peel yours then ?

We peel it Tilly... and dh works with food so has taken tips from some seriously good cooks.
Just run a sharp knife along one side and peel back

TrillianAstra · 07/03/2011 21:43

My top tip: don't.

scurryfunge · 07/03/2011 21:43

Don't worry, I unwrapped individual dishwasher tablets until I realised they were supposed to go in whole.BlushGrin

Weeell, I never used to but dp is a food snob foodie and he does. And now I like doing it

Ingles2 · 07/03/2011 21:44

but the papery bit is bloody awful! why would you eat it? Confused

Mrsfluff · 07/03/2011 21:44

I peel it too and it's my most hated kitchen job!

scurryfunge · 07/03/2011 21:46

Because I stick it in a paella usually and don't notice it.

TragicallyHip · 07/03/2011 21:46

I peel it. I forgot once and it was hard to eat.

I run a sharp knife along one side and peel that way.

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/03/2011 21:46

Grin @ scurry

Its not like sausage skin though is it ? Its papery. Is it not a funny texture when you eat it ?

It's hard to chew through if you don't peel imo!

said · 07/03/2011 21:48

It's softer when it's peeled. And Waitrose doing it means it must be right

Artichokes · 07/03/2011 21:48

Whether you need to peel depends on the chorizo. I have found a Wiatrose chorizo which needs no peeling, the skin is delicate and you don't notice eating it. However, my old Sainsbury's chorizo def needed peeling.

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/03/2011 21:51

I don't know whether I'm disappointed because it looks like I still may need to peel it, or relieved that I haven't won "the stupidest thread of the evening" award Smile

I usually buy cheapo Lidl/Aldi chorizo. The skin is quite thin (hence why its difficult to peel), so it may be ok. I will try not peeling next time

You're not supposed to unwrap dishwasher tablets??

candleshoe · 07/03/2011 21:51

It surely isn't worse than trying to peel a butternut squash - you can lose fingers doing that prep. job!

scurryfunge · 07/03/2011 21:52

Not the vacuum sealed ones!

candleshoe · 07/03/2011 21:52

If you slice the chorizo into thin slices it'll be fine!
