Can anyone recommend a good Thai cook book please?

DP (a great cook anyway) wants to try out some Thai cooking so is looking for a really good book that talks you through the basic sauces used and with a variety of recipes using fresh ingredients ie. Not ones that say "add a jar of green curry sauce" Wink

Looking on Play.com I've noticed that Ken Hom has quite a few books but wouldn't know which one to go for, or even if he's any good TBH.

I am going to get thiswww.amazon.co.uk/Rick-Steins-Far-Eastern-Odyssey/dp/1846077168/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1295373640&sr=1-1 when I have some spare cash, not just Thai also other recipies from Vietnam etc. A real cookbook - not a jar of sauce.

Rick Steins book is fantastic, I got the book for christmas and it has rapidly become my favorite cookbook, even the beef and grapefruit curry(yes you read that right) is good.

ooh that does look good but I'm not sure if it covers too wide an area.

DP likes to really master each area of food that he tackles (he's got the authentic Indian spices down to a fine art now)..one step at a time and all that!

www.amazon.co.uk/Floyds-Great-Curries-Keith-Floyd/dp/1844032043

Not all Thai currys but I find this book really useful.

second rick stein. if you get bored of the thai stuff, the sri lankan food is great.

David Thompson's Thai Food is a good read, but very scholarly and not always practical to cook from.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

I'll pop into the bookshop and have a browse at the ones mentioned to see which looks like the best to get for him.
