Gets released on Friday. Anyone else excited for this? Sci fi/aliens theme.

I'm going to watch it Wednesday. I think they brought forward it's release date. It's had good reviews from the previews I've heard.

SocksAndTheCity · 06/06/2026 20:14

I'm going next weekend - I have a ticket to see it in 70mm at the Odeon so I'm looking forward to it a lot even though the main reason I'm going is Emily Blunt 😍

I'm not a massive sci-fi/alien film fan, but I'm struggling to think of a Steven Spielberg film I didn't enjoy (with the caveat that I've probably only seen around half of them).

concertinacornflake · 06/06/2026 20:27

Yes looking forward to this!

JulietteHasAGun · 06/06/2026 20:29

Anyone who sees it please come back and report how good it is!

Thinking of going to the Everyman cinema to see this. Not been before, usually go to Cineworld but fancy a treat. Anyone rate Everyman cinemas?

Everyman cinemas are great but I wouldn't choose one for Disclosure Day, just because I think it's best seen on the biggest screen possible and their cinemas don't have the premium formats (IMAX, 4DX and suchlike).

If your Cineworld has Superscreen or IMAX then I'd stick to that and save the Everyman trip for something more cosy Smile

Davros · 06/06/2026 23:09

Everyman is more a boutique experience, at least my local ones are but they were the first in the chain. I think they have some bigger cinemas now but I still don’t think they could rival really big screen or imax

Turnitoffnonagain · 07/06/2026 09:00

@SocksAndTheCity good point.
Big screen it is.

I heard Steven Spielberg and Emily Blunt on R2 Saturday morning. Entertaining interview with Dermot O'Leary, worth a listen.

corblimeygvnr · 11/06/2026 00:12

Saw this today and while entertaining it's a bit irritating too. Don't want to say too much to spoil it for anyone.

Marcipex · 11/06/2026 00:33

I saw it today.
It is fascinating. I could watch it again tomorrow.

Puddingypops · 11/06/2026 13:40

I hated it I’ve posted a spoiler review thing on here, really gutted

JulietteHasAGun · 11/06/2026 17:23

Oh dear. The Film Guy on TikTok doesn’t like it either. Said it’s best of waiting until it’s available on streaming and don’t waste your money going to the cinema.

I used to love a bit of Spielberg but the trailer was as much as I want to see

The trailer was as much as you needed to see, tbh - I've just come out and I was bored shitless. I wish I'd nipped across the square to McDonalds for half an hour since I now know I wouldn't have missed anything (I did similar years ago when I got dragged along to see the first LOTR film).

Emily Blunt was still great 😍. Colin Firth was diabolical, Colman Domingo was wasted and it should have been at least half an hour shorter, which it would have been had it been made in 1982 where it belongs. And even after two and a half hours I still don't see what the point of Jane was.

I'm going home to watch Send Help with some microwave popcorn, which I should have done in the first place.

Twonewcats · 15/06/2026 00:47

Oh, i really liked it!

EconomyClassRockstar · 15/06/2026 14:26

It was long winded and, imo, really crap. DH kept falling asleep through it and he’d been the one most keen to watch it. Taking Colin Forth seriously as the baddy was impossible.

SocksAndTheCity · 15/06/2026 14:39

I'm irritated that I paid £30 to see it in 70mm because I'd assumed from the trailer that there would be some really spectacular visuals.

Given that it was mostly people either having terse conversations on mobile phones or sitting in chairs looking stricken, I may as well have gone to my local this afternoon and seen it for seven quid. Or better, just stayed at home and spent the seven quid on cinnamon rolls.

ScratchyPants · 15/06/2026 20:55

It was dire. It was long, boring and the most exciting thing Speilberg could offer was mocking Christianity as if that hasn't been done to death. I'm glad my tickets were free but I'll never get my time back. He peaked with ET. Needs to retire.

JulietteHasAGun · 15/06/2026 21:10

I haven’t gone to see it, will wait for it to be on streaming and then at least I can switch it off if need be.

I was fighting to stay awake. My hubby actually fell asleep. Need I say more. It was well acted though 🤔

Twonewcats · 20/06/2026 00:00

I honestly don't get how people haven't enjoyed this 😭

We had a similar experience. Emily Blunt is great and it starts well. We felt the second half was weaker.

DogAnxiety · 20/06/2026 00:09

I thought it was truly terrible. The dialogue was dire, the plot was basically non-existent and it was way too long. It almost felt like Spielberg was shitting us - stereotyped alien forms, a moral message that was hollow, a bloody train roof scene. I’ve forgotten what happened already.

Sturmundcalm · 20/06/2026 08:22

my DH liked it, I thought it was fine but i expected better...

i don't agree with the "mocking christianity" thing - i read a guardian review before i went that talked about religion being among the things to be trusted and i would say that is how it came across.

the action/thriller sequences all felt a bit pat/easy - nobody sees him, they made it! and the hard lean into traditional "alien" all just felt a bit 1980s as PP said.

JulietteHasAGun · 20/06/2026 18:17

Just watched it for free on a streaming site. It’s a perfectly ok way to spend the afternoon but it’s like an extended X files episode. Don’t get me wrong I liked the x files. But yes I expected more from a “blockbuster “ Spielberg movie. For something which is meant to be so fraught it’s surprisingly slow. Not the fast paced action film I was expecting. But I do like odd sci fi alien type stuff so found it ok. Colin firth was awful.
