I was so looking forward to this and it did not disappoint. Good nods to the original, genuinely funny and no one looks a day older (how?). Anyone else?

I thought it was terrible. The fashion and the make up in particular were really bad. The cityscapes were beautiful, particularly Milan. I hated what they did with Emily. I am so disappointed in the whole film.

Same I saw it yesterday and it was so disappointing. I gave up half way through (about the kitchen and rose moment) and just expected it to get worse.

stonkytonk11 · 04/05/2026 18:07

Absolutely loved it! Was brilliant and quite touching. Meryl S was excellent 👌

Anjelika · 04/05/2026 18:28

Saw it last night with DS16. We both loved it! I hadn’t watched the original since I saw it at the cinema all those years ago so he filled me in on the plot as I’d completely forgotten what happened and he’d watched it recently. Lovely feel good film I thought and laugh out funny in parts.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/05/2026 19:47

I was disappointed. It just wasn’t as funny as the first.

MrsWhites · 04/05/2026 22:35

I’ve just got back from the cinema, horribly disappointing, not a patch on the original.

It was a nice ending to the series but it didn’t have any of the sharp one liners that the first one was so good for!

Untailored · 04/05/2026 22:40

It was ok but not funny enough and Miranda was not as tough. Emily Blunt was the best thing about it.

ConfusedHappy · 05/05/2026 06:06

I wanted to add that it was the first time id heard Justin Theroux speak. I know he was acting but he was so unsexy! In my mind id pictured him as this sexy man who married Jennifer Aniston!

stonkytonk11 · 05/05/2026 08:01

I think Miranda had softened a bit with age and was obviously very aware that she had to watch what she said for fear of offending. The only bit that really annoyed me was the carb comments at the very end. After all the women empowering messages and recognising how difficult it is for women to do it all they made jokes about watching the carbs…

poodlemum01 · 06/05/2026 17:43

I liked it, I didn't love it.
Is it me or did Emily's accent sound 'fake' compared to the last film where it was more 'genuine' English? Also did not like 'bad' Emily.
Agree with the fashion being shitty in this film too.
No funny or memorable lines either from Miranda.

Delatron · 07/05/2026 20:15

It wasn’t nearly as good as the first though maybe it never could be.

I remember Miranda being utterly terrifying and impressive. And she was pretty wet and ineffectual in this. Maybe because we know she’d never get away with behaving the way she did in this day and age?

It was always going to be a tricky sequel with magazines going down the pan the way they are. I know they covered this. But the first was peak magazine era - the glamour, the fashion etc. The fact that you’d start at the bottom and put up with anything just to work on a fashion mag..not applicable now..!

Anne Hathaway was annoying and I wasn’t impressed with what she’d done with her life or her character as a person. She was insipid.

I did like Emily Blunt - I thought she was good in this - as she was in the last film. Slightly distracted by the fillers though…

I don’t think I laughed once!

And my crush in Justin Theroux is over. Jesus - I couldn’t believe it was him! I know it was partly the character he was playing but still..

Yeah I think Emily Blunt’s accent has become in slightly ‘Americanised’ in real life so she really needed to ramp it back up for this.

GellerYeller · 07/05/2026 20:32

I saw it last weekend.
I went in open minded because I’ve seen the original so many times, the whole family love it. So it’s reached a kind of ‘iconic’ status in our family, and would always be tough to beat.
I really enjoyed it but found the opening ten minutes a bit slow to get going.
Loved Emily and Stanley. I did worry that Miranda was on the verge of caricature, like ‘look at this outdated dinosaur’, especially on the plane. But Meryl can do no wrong in my eyes.
Slightly distracted by Rory McIlroy. Why was he in it?! There are so many cameos, but blink and you miss them. I saw Naomi Campbell’s name in the credits. No idea which scene she was in!
Donatella and Gaga were great.
There are some nice callbacks to the original film and I’d love to see it again to spot anyone else I missed 😂.

I thought it was disappointing though, no spoilers but no comparison to the original. Miranda was quite wet whereas in the first, was very sharp.

I thought the same thing. Was so giddy with excitement but it felt like such an anti-climax in the end. The costumes were top-notch though. My child pointed out the blantant product placement which made the film feel "paid for".

LittleRedRidingBoots · 07/05/2026 21:46

I was really disappointed, thought it was a bit boring and nowhere near as good as the first one! Miranda’s character seems to be completely dulled down and I found Anne Hathaway quite annoying 👎

DoomCup · 09/05/2026 06:16

I mostly enjoyed it but agree about the pointless romantic side-plot, random gallery friend and Miranda not being anywhere near as cool or ruthless as she was in the first film.

Nice for nostalgia but won't be in a rush to do it again.

Really hated Emily simpering over her lover and stabbing Miranda in the back - I'd have much preferred to see her using her status and power for good off her own bat instead of relying on her man's money for evil.

mondaytosunday · 09/05/2026 07:07

Agree with you @DoomCup. I used to work in publishing and interested to see how they handled the downfall of actual printed mags but yes Miranda was too soft and Emily was a disappointment.
And you’re so right no one has aged a day! Streep is mid 70s and looks amazing!

ay30916 · 09/05/2026 10:47

I saw this last night. I agree with a lot of the comments. Andy was a bit annoying. I thought Emily would have been a stronger character. I do wonder why they all seek approval from Miranda.
however, if you just take it at surface level I thought it was a great film. I really enjoyed it.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 09/05/2026 11:06

very similar to the first one me and my best friend thought.

rookiemere · 10/05/2026 14:15

Colin from Accounts was certainly punching above his weight as the love interest! Mind you that remark she made that writing was oh so much more important than creating apartments, he was such a wet blanket to cosy back up to her.

I didn’t hate it. I liked the weaving into the plot about the irrelevance of print copy today. It is sad how things have changed for magazines in the last 20 years. I thought Kenneth Branagh gave quite a good performance as the supportive partner and Meryl Streep was - as ever - amazing. Stanley Tucci also brought some genuine emotions to proceedings.Justin Theroux was the biggest shock on the fillers front, the mans face seems to have doubled in size from how I remember it in SATC, and not in a good way.

I wouldn’t rush to see it again, but it was better than I expected.

Britpopbaby · 10/05/2026 14:48

Pigeonpair1 · 03/05/2026 00:31

I saw it tonight. Really enjoyed it – apart from the completely pointless love interest storyline. Why do they feel they have to insert one into so many films? It added nothing.

I agree it was pointless. I also could not believe in Emily’s live interest.

I would like to see a third film in a few years time as I thought it highlighted the demise of magazines and would like to catch up with it and see what it can say about influencer culture and if that becomes more popular or starts to die. The clip in the car towards the end with Miranda and Andy talking about saving the magazine for me would be a jumping off point.

Isobel201 · 10/05/2026 15:02

I think given some of the reviews, I might wait for it to come out to watch on disney plus, given that none of my friends are really interested in coming to watch in the cinema with me. I'm a little skeptic of the sequel being as good as the first and I don't think I'll pay for a cinema seat to watch one.

ManufacturedConcerns · 10/05/2026 15:03

I found it a bit meh. Some nice nods to the original, and an amazing cast. But not a patch on the original.

I also completely failed to recognise Justin Theroux!
Kenneth Branagh was a nice surprise-I didn’t know he was in it beforehand.
We had a rewatch of the original and I think the actor playing Miranda’s last husband was also Big’s brother in the SATC spin off.

Hotdayinjuly · 10/05/2026 15:08

I thought it was just ok. A little bit too long, the cameos added nothing. There was zero chemistry between the two actors and the whole love interest storyline added nothing.

JuliettaCaeser · 10/05/2026 15:11

Really good! Better than I thought it was going to be. Quite adult and not so disneyfied as the original. Don’t take kids they will be bored stiff unless they are into corporate intrigue which is unlikely.
