The best independent movie you have ever seen.

I have never been a huge fan of high budget movies, I can appreciate the escapism, beautiful casts and thrill of them but I much prefer a movie where I can connect, occasionally relate and watch a plot or character unfold. For that reason I prefer smaller/independent movies and absolutely love when I find a gem.

Wondering for this reason if you could recommend me your favourite smaller or independent films.

I thought it was just Brokeback Mountain in Yorkshire.

Last Night (McKellar). The world is about to end, and everyone knows it. The film follows a few people as they live through their last night. It's pretty convincing.

I also recommend Barbara with the same lead and director.

Two of my favourite German films are The Edge of Heaven by Fatih Akin and The Marriage of Maria Braun by Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

I love an indie film and there are some corkers recommended here.

I am a sucker for a European film - just go to your local ICO cinema (where do you live? There are loads dotted around)

Theres a French Little Mermaid film. Stunning. No happy ending except dead mermaid souls is that beautiful white light glancing on the waves.

The Quiet Earth. Australian Sci Fi.Not only is the guy only one of 3 survivors after a world ending event but then ends up as thd last one standing.

I agree Rabbit Proof Fence excellent Australian film about the official government policy to remove aboriginal children from their families between 1905 and 1967. It’s very emotional.
The music soundtrack is by Peter Gabriel.
