The best independent movie you have ever seen.

I have never been a huge fan of high budget movies, I can appreciate the escapism, beautiful casts and thrill of them but I much prefer a movie where I can connect, occasionally relate and watch a plot or character unfold. For that reason I prefer smaller/independent movies and absolutely love when I find a gem.

Wondering for this reason if you could recommend me your favourite smaller or independent films.

I don't know if this counts.
I think it was financed by the BBC, but I love, love, LOVE Truly, Madly, Deeply staring the fabulous Juliet Stevenson and the wonderful Alan Rickman 🥀

Ugh this is such a wonderful film. I saw it as a very young teen and was mesmerised and still am. That scene with the piano, what a performance. I might watch it tonight and weep 😂

I think most Mike Leigh films fit under the criteria of great Independent ones.

Parasite and Sinners are two of the most recent I've enjoyed.

Oh yes - The Lives of Others is maybe the best film ever.

Hard agree.

Anyone who enjoyed The Station Agent may also enjoy another indie from that director - Win Win.

Some other gems:

Enough Said
Lone Star
The Holdovers
Rachel Getting Married
The Immigrant
