Has anyone watched this yet?

OP posts:
RogueFemale · 24/10/2025 22:22

Not me but a friend saw it and said it was really good.

Overthemhills · 24/10/2025 23:01

Just finished watching it. It’s good - intense. I won’t ost any spoilers

BasiliskStare · 24/10/2025 23:12

I've just watched - I won't comment yet but maybe when a few more have in the interests of no spoilers.

ozarina · 28/10/2025 19:13

Yup we have. It's tense BUT ......

Changingnames2002 · 28/10/2025 19:27

I give up after about 50 minutes I just found it repetitive! Judging by the comments above I really should go back and give it another go!

JollyMintWasp · 28/10/2025 19:51

I saw it pop up but haven’t started yet. Is it actually good or just one of those Netflix fillers they promote for a week and forget about?

AlanisMorningShed · 28/10/2025 20:13

@Changingnames2002 I'm not sure it is worth rewatching if you didn't like the first 50 minutes.
The ending is odd! I enjoyed it overall though.
I've been reading into nuclear.... it'll be the making of us (nuclear power) or the ending of us (nuclear weapons). Such a powerful part of science

WhyIhatebaylissandharding · 28/10/2025 20:20

Ending was v annoying.

There are bits that are repetitive briefly to show you how each sector responded.

It was!

awakeandasleep · 29/10/2025 10:55

It was good until it wasn't. The ending was probably one of the worst I have ever seen.

ahoyshipmate · 29/10/2025 10:58

I don’t think it could end any other way tbh. It was saying, what would you do? And emphasising the need to avoid getting to that point

It’s Katherine bigelow so definitely not a filler. I loved it but frustrated by the ending too.

Tryingatleast · 29/10/2025 11:05

Amazed by the first hour, we were all edge of our seats but then … I will add we were all disappointed by the president even though we all usually love them (trying to be spoiler free😅) Rebecca Ferguson is a fab actress though! Jared Harris standout too.

ednaclouda · 05/11/2025 07:51

I thought is was very tense and showed how weak comms could let us down

Mochudubh · 05/11/2025 08:12

I really enjoyed it, reminded me of Chernobyl in tone (and Jared Harris obvs).

We were saying afterwards how surprisingly engrossing it was, given that there's little "action" involved (no car chases or shooty bang bangs). It's incredibly tense and yes the ending is a bit "Oh"? but doing it any other way would be a whole other film (for a different Director).

Freysimo · 05/11/2025 08:17

I enjoyed it until the end............

TheWillToSurvive · 05/11/2025 08:18

So good I watched it twice. Brilliant.

OrangeT · 05/11/2025 08:26

I thought the ending was perfect for the film.

For the pp who found it repetitive it’s the same timeline in three perspectives.

CoolFineDoneWicked · 05/11/2025 23:16

Watched it tonight, it's brilliant. A War Games for our times (and depressing how little our times have changed since 1983.)

I recommend the Turning Point documentary on Netflix about nuclear weapons and the Cold War - very complementary themes.

No87 · 06/11/2025 00:50

Meh, I could take it or leave it. First part was pretty good, intense but I found it repetitive so got bored. Ending was bad.

C95 · 13/11/2025 22:01

I have not been so enthralled with a film for years and years. Phone was put down and I watched the film sitting on the edge of my seat.!

The ending?

FFS!

Is there a spoiler thread anywhere, I need to rant!

CoolFineDoneWicked · 14/11/2025 00:58

I thought the ending was perfect, I think people are missing the point.

We're so attuned to action films that we expect certain things to happen, and the film completely confounds those expectations to leave you feeling wildly unsettled, with no catharsis. The futility is the point. There are no answers, or ways out, or endings, or catharsis, because nuclear proliferation is so fucking mental.

As per War Games, the only winning move is not to play. House of Dynamite has someone (apparently) playing the first move, but the film isn't about the moves, it's about everyone realising exactly what "the only winning move is not to play" means. It means all the plans and strategies are nonsense, and when it comes to implementing them for real, everyone falls apart like children, because what else is there to do?

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 14/11/2025 01:07

not great.

Agree with this. I bit my nails until the end. So bleak. Loved it
