Starring and directed by Anna Kendrick based on the true story of the serial killer who went on The Dating game. Just watched and very very good.

Anyone else seen?

I thought it was okay..not worth the hype

Pigeonqueen · 19/10/2024 21:59

We watched this yesterday and really enjoyed it; although enjoyed seems the wrong word because of the topic! But it was interesting. We did a lot of googling afterwards. Very creepy and terribly sad they didn’t catch him a lot earlier.

Tomorrowisyesterday · 19/10/2024 22:42

What a story. How brave was that young girl?
Why do the police seem to have been so useless with historic cases like this - plenty of people complained about him.

Rollergirl11 · 19/10/2024 22:49

@Tomorrowisyesterday yes her quick thinking really saved her; although kind of surprised that he fell for it.

The true story is that it was actually an 8 year old that he’d attacked and left for dead that came back and testified against him so he wasn’t released - obviously she was much older then, I think the film chose not to feature her attack because she was such a young child. The girl who escaped in the film by asking him not to tell anyone was 15 at the time. That part was true. So clever of her. What an absolute monster he was.

A few years ago the police released some of the photos he took in a hope to identify some of his victims, or potential ones anyway. A lot of women came forwards to say they were in the photos. Oddly enough he seemed to kill some and not others. So strange. They certainly do walk among us.

Tomorrowisyesterday · 20/10/2024 00:32

It does seem odd that his very young victims weren't in the film - though I would not have wished to see that on camera obviously - but he really was such a monster.

colouringindoors · 20/10/2024 15:07

Saw this last night. I thought it was a striking, powerful film looking at misogyny across the spectrum but obviously he was the extreme. I liked how she maintained focus on the women throughout. Hugely rage-inducing that he could have been discovered earlier if Police had listened to women, and disgusted that his bail release meant he killed more. Good work Kendrick.

I loved this film...watched it last night and am still thinking about it.

Thommasina · 22/10/2024 13:02

I enjoyed it but it was definitely a made for tv movie.

susiedaisy1912 · 22/10/2024 18:01

Watched it and found it chilling and very realistic. Still thinking about the bar and parking lot scene.

Wolfpa · 22/10/2024 18:03

I must have watched a different film to everyone else as I thought it was rubbish. It jumped about the place there was no explanation. Lots of characters had no purpose. It is not one I would recommend

AuntieMarys · 22/10/2024 18:04

We enjoyed it. Very powerful

Yes the parking lot scene was chilling. I actually had someone do something very similar to me as a young woman. We’d been talking after he was walking back with me from the pub we’d both been at, I didn’t know him but we both ended up going the same way home. Half way across the park (during broad daylight; lots of people about) he suddenly switched personalities completely and basically threatened to rape me. I sort of laughed it off as I really didn’t know what else to do and walked as quickly as I could away from him. It was terrifying. Weirdly enough he didn’t attempt to grab me or anything and just switched back to being normal and we walked off in opposite directions at the end of the park. But the switch between being nice and being nasty was really scary.

Just watched it,it was brilliantly done. Now I'm googling as hadn't heard of him before.

Who did you think had no purpose?

ohsotired2022 · 24/10/2024 15:52

Watched this last night and agree that it was a very powerful film.

Also found the parking lot scene chilling. It's the stuff that you feel terrified about as woman walking in the dark to your car. You feel so vulnerable and this absolutely hit that nerve. After I watched this last I had to double check all doors were locked .

A complete monster. Haven't googled.
Terrifying what these men have got away with. Same as Darmer when he had the young boy who got away.

The whole dating game scene was absolutely chilling too, you knew she's pick him and I was internally screaming noooooooo!!

The parking lot was horrendous.

ohsotired2022 · 24/10/2024 18:22

@LoafofSellotape I know.

It really got me thinking that she was turned off by player 1 as he showed he wasn't clever and player 2 as his thoughts on what are woman for were exposed. Yet. She liked the smart way that player 3 came across yet he was the most evil of them all.

LoafofSellotape · 24/10/2024 19:55

Yes, talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/10/2024 20:02

I thought it was good but I despair at how useless the police are, absolutely shocking.

The timeline confused me a bit.

The young girl at the end was absolutely incredible in how she held it together and survived.

She was amazing. I googled her last night, she was instrumental in getting him sent down .

The film only touched on his crimes, they were horrendous.

autienotnaughty · 24/10/2024 20:43

I enjoyed the film I thought it was well done. The real story is horrific.

theemptinessmachine · 29/10/2024 15:38

Not as good as we thought it was going to be. Over hyped.

Maybe that's why I liked it so much, I hasn't read any reviews or seen any trailers, hadn't even heard of it until I watched it.

theemptinessmachine · 29/10/2024 19:10

I'm not keen on Anna Kendrick as well. Felt like a little show piece for her whereas the star of the show was the young girl at the end Autumn Best.
