I've seen loads of posts today about Sinister being the scariest film ever.

Pffft. I watched Meghan is Missing this week, now traumatised.

And I can't ever erase The Green Inferno from my brain.

What are your worst?

OP posts:

The Human Centipede. Horrific and wish I could unsee it.

QuickFetchTheCoffee · 14/04/2024 07:44

@Marchintospring no idea if you were referring to my comment (not long before yours and uses word horrible) but I take that word back.
The ending to The Descent is
Disturbing, eerie, dire, awful, despondent, galling, miserable, distressing, and grim.
Definitely not just a gorefest.

Lots of people mentioning Wolf Creek. I get it. It was horrible, but isn’t that one more a violent thriller rather than horror? It gave me the creeps for a while after too.

It’s a ‘slasher’, definitely a horror film.

ViciousCurrentBun · 14/04/2024 08:54

@hardyloveit Drag me to Hell is great but cheesy, maybe I’m not right in the head but bits of it made me laugh. The floating handkerchief is a very good touch.

Cadela · 14/04/2024 08:56

The It remakes scared the fuck out of me the first time I saw them, but I rewatched them recently with friends (after saying how horrifying they are) and they were fine. So that’s cleared up my fear of Pennywise 😂

Wolf Creek is horrendous. Never again.

Yep, The Descent here as well. Terrified me, couldn't wait for it to end and then just when I thought it had... it hadn't.

Otherwise I'm generally not fussed about films involving monsters or ghosts, I'm more disturbed by situations that could feasibly actually happen, such as Hostel or Saw.

Why not just watch war footage then? Plenty of real life torture going on now that makes Saw look like amateur filming.

ginislife · 14/04/2024 09:02

The Shining 40+ years ago. Never watched a horror movie since !!

Marchintospring · 14/04/2024 09:11

If you like slasher movies, I suggest watching a few episodes of the World at War for starters. The concentration camps had plenty of filmed footage of the prisoner's being experimented on to see how much pain the human body can take. Genuinely horrific.

Rocknrollstar · 14/04/2024 09:44

We went to see The Green Mile. When it finished we fell into the pub next door and ordered doubles. I don’t usually watch horror movies at all.

CarnDûm · 14/04/2024 10:24

I used to watch a lot of horror movies with friends in my younger days.
The ones that I watched as a teen and haunted me were:
The Ghost Ship
Wrong turn
Silent Hill
Jeepers creepers

As an adult I struggled with:
Mirrors - It took me a couple of weeks before I could look into a mirror!
Saw
Hereditary - DH really liked this one, I wish I could just press delete. I found it really disturbing.

And many many others that I can't think of at the moment!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 14/04/2024 11:28

Exorcism of Emily Rose because of the story behind it.

Descent because of how dark it was and just felt trapped. And the ending...the American version had a different ending which which way for a sequel but did in a way like the UK ending. Even if so bleak.

Sinister.. urghhh the lawnmower. Its what you don't see but know its happening.

Oh, I thought I didn’t watch horror 😂🤣 Isn’t it a true story?

I love all these films, mick taylor feom wolf creek is my favourite villan of all times, fantastic actor as is shown by how many people that can't finish off the movie! Tarrantino is also a huge fan of his let's hope he casts him in one of his movies soon!

He really is. Utterly amazing actor man. The wolf creeks and the series are up there on my favourite list. It wouldn't be the same without him.

No it’s not really a true story. It’s loosely inspired by true events but all the epilogue story at the end is made up

I think because there’s a difference between fictional on screen horror and torture as part of a film, and that of something you know to be real footage. Completely different groups will get their kicks from each one. I’ve made some very good friends who get a thrill from horror films. Whole different set of people get their kicks from actual suffering. I probably wouldn’t want to be around the second group.

I thought THC was a lot of fun and very silly - it reminded of the old Hammer mad scientist films 😀

Dieter Laser was a huge TV star in Germany IIRC and sadly died a few years ago.

If anybody has the TV on, The Autopsy Of Jane Doe starts on FilmFour in a couple of minutes

I saw it as a surprise festival film and thought it was a belter (Brian Cox is great in it but not as good as he was as Hannibal Lecktor).

He was sensational as Hannibal Lector

QueenBitch666 · 14/04/2024 14:42

Fun fact: in Manhunter with Brian Cox, the name was changed to Lecktor instead of Lecter, even though the books only ever used the latter name. I have no idea why.

Sooo much scarier than Anthony Hopkins ever was 😮

KatPurrson · 14/04/2024 15:02

Wolf Creek. Ugh.

turkeyboots · 14/04/2024 15:05

I don't think I really get horror movies, find them quite annoying. Hereditary and Midsomer were just werid rather than scary to me. I loved X though, the Ring movies, Dark Water and Suspiria.

But the ones which get me are the ones I watched young. Nightmare on Elm St and The Candyman. Gave me a lasting nervousness about American suburbs. And Blair Witch 2. I don't know why that one scared me silly, but it did!

BeachBeerBbq · 14/04/2024 15:09

Most of my gen still carry Final Destination trauma😂
